The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) announced a year-over-year increase in gaming revenue for April 2025, with total earnings across all forms of gaming and fantasy contests reaching $558,717,922. This represents a 10.7% rise compared to the same month in 2024.

Top casinos lead the way

Major casino operators continue to dominate the market in Pennsylvania, with Valley Forge Casino Resort leading the pack. The venue reported just over $99 million in total revenue—an increase of more than 16% compared to the previous year, reported the PGCB.

Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course followed closely, bringing in nearly $98 million—a 24.7% increase.

Meanwhile, the Golden Nugget saw the largest percentage gain, more than doubling its revenue with a 116.4% rise compared to April 2024.

iGaming drives growth

Across the various forms of gaming, internet-based casino games were the most significant driver of revenue growth. Total iGaming earnings climbed to $227.7 million in April, an impressive 31.3% increase from the previous year.

Online slots in Pennsylvania alone accounted for nearly $169.5 million, while online table games brought in close to $56 million.

The only slight downturn within this segment was seen in online poker, which dipped by about 2.8%, settling at $2.3 million for the month. Hollywood Casino at Penn National led in the iGaming category, followed by Valley Forge and Rivers Casino Philadelphia.

Mixed results for retail gaming

Retail gaming delivered mixed results. Slot machines brought in just over $203 million, a slight dip of 1.16% from last year. The main reason? There were fewer machines on the floor—over 500 less than the year before.

Retail table games, on the other hand, saw a modest increase of 2.7%, generating over $80.6 million in revenue. Among the leaders in this category were Wind Creek Bethlehem and Parx Casino, which recorded positive year-over-year changes.

Sports wagering maintains steady pace

Sports betting in Pennsylvania remained steady in April, with a slight 0.29% increase in taxable revenue compared to April 2024. The total handle for sports betting rose to $711.6 million, up by more than 10% from the previous year. Despite the strong handle, revenue gains were modest, and some operators, such as Valley Forge Casino Resort, experienced a noticeable decline in sports betting revenue compared to the previous April.

Video gaming terminals and fantasy contests

Video gaming terminals (VGTs), mostly found at truck stops around the state, brought in $3.5 million—down about 3.5% from last year. The number of machines didn’t change, with all 74 licensed locations still running the maximum allowed.

Fantasy contests, on the other hand, added a bit of a boost. Revenue climbed to $1.26 million, up 2.34%, thanks in large part to strong showings from operators like DraftKings and Underdog Sports. FanDuel, however, saw a slight dip.

Tax revenue contribution

All in all, Pennsylvania brought in $234.5 million in gaming tax revenue for April 2025. That total includes money from every corner of the industry and reflects the numbers before any final adjustments by the state’s Department of Revenue.
