Rappi sanctioned over illegal promotional game

Colombian gambling regulator Coljuegos has sanctioned Rappi, a Latin American on-demand delivery app, barring them from applying for a licence to operate games of chance

Following the launch of their RappiPool Mundial game, which offers prizes to players without an entry fee, Rappi will not be able to apply for a local operating license in Colombia. The regulator pointed out that approval must be received before going live. There have been around 300 such approvals issued by Coljuegos since 2020.

The fine amounted to COP78.1m (€17,292), which is on top of the five-year ban from applying for a licence. Quite the hit after having only entered the Colombian market last year through a strategic partnership with locally licensed operator Megapuesta and supplier BtoBet.

Seven other investigations are also being carried out on companies who may have committed similar offences, Coljuegos added.
