Legends Ascend South Asia: Riot Games opens gateway to global esports

Riot Games, in collaboration with Aftermath Ventures, has officially unveiled Legends Ascend South Asia, a game-changing online amateur tournament designed to ignite the region’s competitive spirit. Launching on 27 April 2025, Legends Ascend promises not just glory and a prize pool of INR 10,00,000 ($11,715) but also a rare chance to enter the big leagues via the LCP Wildcard Playoffs.

The genesis of Legends Ascend

Riot Games, the creator of League of Legends, has partnered with Aftermath Ventures, the esports firm behind FragNation, to introduce a structured, scalable tournament model to a region rich with untapped talent. With gaming booming across India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and neighbouring countries, the timing couldn’t be better.

The infrastructure is in place, the players are ready, and now, the opportunity has arrived. Teams from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, and the Maldives are eligible to participate. This event welcomes everyone, from weekend warriors to dedicated amateurs. If you’re passionate about the game, this opportunity is for you.

Tournament format and structure

The competition starts with three open qualifiers that provide different platforms to get into the league stage. There is a round-robin league stage, where top teams play each other to ensure only tough, consistent teams move on. Double-elimination playoffs make up the grand finale, where the last four teams fight to be there. One loss will not be enough to break them, but two will.

Road to LCP wildcard playoffs

The League of Legends Championship Pacific (LCP) Wildcard Playoffs is your gateway to the big leagues. Winning here secures your spot in the LCP promotion and relegation tournament, where aspiring professionals can make their dreams a reality. South Asia finally has representation on the global esports stage, and Legends Ascend serves as more than just a tournament—it’s a pathway to international recognition.

The visionaries behind Riot’s south asian dream

Arun Rajappa, the Country Manager for India & South Asia at Riot Games, shares his excitement about the upcoming Legends Ascend tournament. He emphasises that Legends Ascend is designed to provide South Asian players with a genuine opportunity to compete in League of Legends at a high level.

Rajappa said, “Legends Ascend is about giving players in South Asia a real shot at competitive League of Legends. It’s a step towards building a stronger, more connected community where players and fans can all find more ways to play, engage, grow, and be part of something bigger.”

Mansoor ‘Nabu’ Ahmed, the visionary Founder and CEO of Aftermath Ventures, proudly introduces Legends Ascend South Asia. This initiative is not merely a tournament; it is a transformative platform designed to uplift and empower the next generation of League of Legends players in the region.

Nabu stated, “Legends Ascend South Asia is more than just a tournament—it’s a platform built to empower a new generation of League players in the region. From playing the game ourselves to now hosting it for the community, this moment is incredibly special.
