São Paulo court shuts down 15 betting sites over legal disputes

The São Paulo Court ordered the blocking of 15 online betting sites. This decision came after a public civil action filed by the Association in Defense of Gaming and Betting (Adeja). The accusation is that these companies involved act as intermediaries, moving users’ money and sending it to betting platforms that operate without a license in Brazil.

The São Paulo Court of Justice (TJSP) reported that the 35th Civil Court of the Capital issued an injunction that requires the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) to take the necessary measures to ensure the blocking of these sites. Judge Gustavo Henrique Bretas Marzagão, who signed the decision, highlighted the problems caused by online gambling, especially those offered by unregulated and unaudited sites.

So far, both the companies cited in the lawsuit and Anatel have not publicly commented on the decision. However, the Justice was clear in pointing out the damage that these betting sites can cause, both for individuals and for society at large.

According to the TJSP, the decision is a response to the allegations presented by Adeja, which showed, through documents, that the companies listed in the lawsuit facilitate the transfer of money from users to the owners of betting sites. This further increases concern about the lack of regulation and enforcement of these platforms.

The companies mentioned in the process are:

  • Arkpago Ltda
  • Golden Cat Processamento de Pagamento Ltda
  • Hkp Pay Pagamentos Ltda
  • Moneta Transfer Ltda
  • Payway Consultoria e Serviços Ltda
  • Sqalapay Pagamentos Ltda
  • Vacano Facilitadora de Pagamentos Ltda
  • Vmor Comercial Ltda
  • Ycfshop Tecnologia em E-commerce Ltda

This list shows the main companies accused of operating irregularly, being the focus of the action that led to the blocking of the sites. The court ruling is an important step in trying to limit access to these unregulated services and protect consumers.

Even with the decision in force, companies can still appeal. However, the block already represents a concrete action to try to control access to these sites.
