NUSTAR Resort and Casino in Cebu has appointed experienced gaming executive Sean Knights as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO). Knights, a veteran with 25 years in the gaming and hospitality industry, takes over from Alan Teo, who has moved on to become CEO of Hoi An South Development Ltd (HASD) in Vietnam.
Knights’ extensive experience in casino management, coupled with his leadership at major gaming establishments, makes him a strong choice to drive NUSTAR’s growth. His appointment marks a new chapter for Cebu’s only integrated resort.
Knights brings experience with some of the biggest names in the gaming sector. Most recently, he was General Manager at Mindil Beach Casino Resort in Darwin, Australia, owned by US-based Delaware North. Previously, he was in key leadership roles at Crown Resorts, most recently Executive General Manager – Gaming at Crown Sydney and Executive General Manager – Table Games at Crown Melbourne.
His career also includes management positions at The Star Sydney, The Ville in Townsville, and Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore. This extensive background in high-profile gaming operations positions him well to lead NUSTAR in its next phase of development.
Opened in May 2022, NUSTAR Resort and Casino is Cebu’s first and only integrated resort, setting a new benchmark for luxury gaming and entertainment in the region. The resort boasts approximately 150 gaming tables and 1,000 electronic gaming machines (EGMs), alongside a diverse selection of retail stores, restaurants, bars, and premium hotel accommodations.
Knights is expected to be focused on increasing the market share of NUSTAR, enhancing the experience for the customer, and further strengthening the resort as the number one destination for entertainment in the Philippines. He will be useful in navigating this competitive landscape because he has a deep understanding of the gaming sector.
Knights’ appointment comes at a time of significant movement within the Asian gaming industry. His predecessor, Alan Teo, played a crucial role in establishing NUSTAR’s presence in Cebu before transitioning to his new role at HASD in Vietnam. These leadership shifts reflect the dynamic nature of the industry, where experienced executives are sought after to spearhead ambitious projects.
This means that the Knights will be at its helm, and it would strengthen the offers from NUSTAR, thus attracting more high-value visitors. His leadership will definitely shape the future of the resort, making sure it remains at the helm of the Philippine gaming and hospitality sector.
