SiGMA welcomes Clayton Bartolo in iGaming position as Silvio Schembri changes roles

New Cabinet sees fresh young approach, with Clayton Bartolo taking on Silvio Schembri’s mantle

Hon. Robert Abela has been elected as the new Prime Minister of Malta and a lot of new faces in the Cabinet have been sworn in as Abela took the crucial decision to reshuffle ministers in order to strengthen institutions. This is the biggest and youngest Cabinet ever in Malta’s political history.

Clayton Bartolo, Parliamentary for Financial Services, Digital Economy and Innovation

Clayton Bartolo has been appointed by the Prime Minister Robert Abela as the Parliamentary Secretary responsible for Financial Services, Digital Economy and Innovation, the position previously held by Silvio Schembri, who will now be taking over the Ministry of Economy, Investment and Small Business.  Schembri obtained a master’s degree in Economy right after graduating with a Bachelors of Honours in Economics from the University of Malta, making him a perfect fit in his new role.

He comments about his varying roles having a “robust portfolio, that the Prime Minister Robert Abela had the pleasure to entrust me with. I will also be taking under my responsibility Air Malta, on which we will keep on building this governments’ vision.”

In an interview for the cover story of the last issue of BLOCK magazine’s Autumn Edition 2019 Schembri remarks, “The proactiveness of this government, sends a significant message to companies in this sphere which are looking to operate from here.”

Clayton Bartolo had been elected as an MP for the first time in 2017 and this is his first experience in the Cabinet. The iGaming sector is an important pillar in Malta’s GDP and it’s critical that the sector have strong stakeholders such as Bartolo for this sector

SiGMA congratulates both the Hon. Minister Silvio Schembri and Parliamentary Secretary Clayton Bartolo on their new roles and looks forward to working closely to further consolidate the iGaming sector in Malta.
