SiGMA’s impact on Malta’s gaming industry: Insights from Charles Mizzi

SiGMA has played an instrumental role in strengthening Malta’s gaming ecosystem, aligning closely with the country’s strategic vision for the industry. Charles Mizzi, CEO of the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA), shared his thoughts on how SiGMA’s growth has contributed to the sector and how the MGA continues to support a thriving, well-regulated gaming landscape.

“SiGMA has been doing very well. It started in Malta, and it’s very good to see it growing and reaching other continents. At the end of the day, this will help the global gaming sector to grow,” Mizzi remarked.

SiGMA’s role in the growth of Malta’s gaming industry

Malta’s gaming industry remains a cornerstone of the nation’s economy, with SiGMA acting as a key driver of industry expansion. Mizzi highlighted the sector’s increasing contribution to the economy, stating,

“The B2C sector accounts for around 7% of the GVA. If you also consider the B2B side, then the percentage rises to 13%.”

He also noted the positive impact that SiGMA has had on employment in the gaming sector.

“The employment sector keeps increasing year on year, and this expansion is very much welcome because it helps to keep the industry growing,” he added.

The MGA’s support for SiGMA and the industry

As the regulatory authority for Malta’s gaming industry, the MGA ensures that growth aligns with fair and transparent gaming practices.

“We aim to be at the forefront of the gaming industry. We are already renowned as a world-class gaming regulator, and we aim to sustain this momentum, Mizzi stated.

He further emphasised the importance of balancing industry success with player protection.

“We want to provide a platform for operators to thrive, but at the same time, ensure that gaming remains fair and transparent. Player protection, especially for vulnerable individuals, is a crucial part of our strategy.”

Collaboration as a key to success

SiGMA’s success is also a testament to the collaborative nature of Malta’s gaming industry. Mizzi stressed the significance of open dialogue between regulators and operators.

“Collaboration is key. We engage with operators regularly, both formally and informally, to ensure we stay abreast of industry developments,” he explained.

This allows the MGA to refine its regulatory framework and ensure a level playing field for all stakeholders.

SiGMA’s global expansion and future prospects

SiGMA’s international expansion reflects Malta’s growing influence in the global gaming industry. Mizzi acknowledged the conference’s increasing global footprint, noting its positive impact on the industry’s development.

“It’s very good news for a local company to grow so significantly. SiGMA’s expansion across continents will contribute to the overall development of the global gaming industry,” he commented.

With SiGMA continuing to broaden its reach, Malta remains at the heart of the gaming world. Under Mizzi’s leadership, the MGA continues to support SiGMA’s vision while ensuring that the industry operates in a sustainable and well-regulated manner.
