Staying on top of your game while working remotely

Tips and tricks from Antti Alatalo from Cashcow

With the global COVID-19 situation many employees are forced to stay at home and work remotely. Many enterprises suddenly have to support an entirely remote workforce. Working from home brings about a lot of benefits especially during this crucial time. It offers flexibility, financial savings and most importantly health advantages.

If done correctly, working from home can allow workers to minimise distractions and increase the time they spend focused on a particular project.

Jessica Walker, head of media production joins guest Antti Alatalo from Cashcow to discuss working from home effectively and staying ahead of the game.

Get with the flow:

Dedicating a part of your home for work is a great idea to improve productivity. A workstation helps in keeping all essentials in an orderly manner therefore improves workflow by saving time. It not only makes it easier for you to focus on your daily tasks but helps you to approach them in an effective and systematic manner. Above all, scheduling your day should be also be a priority.

Master your time:

Start every workday as if you are going to the office. Don’t omit your morning routine (waking up, taking a shower, having your breakfast, reading the news). One of the biggest benefits of working from home is flexibility. Take advantage of the time saved from not having to commute to work and make use of it to your advantage.

Stay connected:

Online tools like Slack create a sense of community among remote teams. You can set your own status on the app so when your coworkers are scrolling searching for you they can quickly see what you are currently doing or if you’re available. You can also contribute to group conversations periodically throughout the day and chat with coworkers just like you would in an office. Apart from staying connected with your colleagues you should also keep in touch with what is going on globally.

Putting the social back in social media:

Using social media during this time is crucial. Apps like Twitter and Facebook, concretely, provide a range of accounts, groups and networks that continuously spread information about political events, current affairs and breaking news. These platforms could potentially be a rich source of information for remote workers in search for information.
