Betsson SEK 20 million penalty annulled

With the Swedish court in agreement, the authorities repealed their decision in its entirety

The Administrative Court of Linkoping in Sweden has cleared Betsson’s SEK20m fine after the company appealed this decision.

bettson GroupIn June, the Swedish Gaming Inspectorate issued a fine alongside a warning to Betsson for allowing customers to fund their online accounts through retail vouchers as well as the Mastercard plan which allowed illegal bonuses for players.

The payment card was launched under the name Betsson-Mastarcard and it allegedly allowed customers tickets to sporting events and other offers.

According to the admirative court, these tickets and other such benefits would constitute the offering of an unauthorised bonus which at the time was against Sweden’s gambling regulations.

After a through investigation the Administrative Court found that Betsson has not, as the Swedish Gaming Inspectorate believes, received payments from anyone other than a gaming service provider nor received cash as payment for online gaming through the sale of the vouchers.

The Court concluded that Spelinspektionen has no basis for issuing Betsson a warning and penalty fee and annuled the penalty fee of SEK 20 million. With the Swedish court in agreement , the authorities repealed their decision in its entirety.
