Switzerland vs Portugal Preview: Prediction, Odds, and Betting Tips

Tuesday night quite possibly we’ll be witnessing the start of the final World Cup knock-out stage for one of the modern football legends Cristiano Ronaldo. Cover our preview and suggested Switzerland vs Portugal Odds as welll as the trending sports betting tips.

Switzerland vs Portugal Prediction Preview

His Portugal side, unlike in some prior instances, managed to qualify for the knock-out stage after the first two group matches. They beat Ghana and Uruguay, scoring five goals total, one coming from Ronaldo himself, two from his recent teammate Bruno Fernandes, and one each from players who are expected to carry Portugal’s attack once CR7 retires – Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix and AC Milan’s Rafael Leao. In a group’s final game against South Korea, head coach Fernando Santos gave the opportunity to younger players to recommend themselves for the next matches. However, Portugal conceded a late goal in a 2-1 loss, so it seems we’ll be watching Portugal’s regular starting XI in the Round of 16 against Switzerland.

The Swiss also managed to get two victories, against Cameroon (1-0) and Serbia (3-2), while they also played a good match against favored Brazil. However, Casemiro scored late to propel the Seleção to first place, and Switzerland had to beat Serbia in two consecutive World Cups to advance to the Round of 16. The Swiss side also has veterans looking to achieve one last, great national team result before they make room for younger talent. Starters Xhaka, Shaqiri, Freuler, Sommer, Schar, and Rodriguez all reached the age of 30, and it’s likely they’ll be past their prime for the next World Cup.

Head-to-Head Switzerland vs Portugal matches

These two teams already played two competitive matches this year. In the second group of Nations A League, both teams achieve one win. Portugal defeated the Swiss side convincingly, 4-0 on their home field in Lisbon. One week later, Switzerland scored in the first minute through Seferovic, who fell out of the rotation for the Qatar World Cup. That result, 1-0, remained until the end of the game.

Interestingly, Switzerland holds the lead in head-to-head matches. They recorded the first win in the qualifiers for the third edition of the World Cup when they won 2-1 in France in 1938. In total, Switzerland has 11 wins against Portugal’s 9, and 5 draws.

Starting Lineup Preview:

Portugal to go through (Winner): -213

This bet covers both extra time and penalties. Portugal has more experience in these types of games. In 2016 they won EURO 2016 with two extra-time victories and one after penalties.

Portugal to win: +100

With Bernardo Silva and Bruno Fernandes in the middle, Portugal will have the advantage in ball possession. Also, the speed and flair of Felix and Ronaldo could create problems for the right side of the Swiss defense where Widmer and Schär had their problems against Serbia.

First-half draw: +108

If you don’t have a horse in this race, maybe it’s best to go with a tie in the first half. There were 23 0:0 ties in the first half during the group stage.
