International Tennis Integrity Agency bans player for 30 months

Nikita Gudozhnikov failed to co-operate with an integrity investigation, resulting in a massive ban and $7,500 fine

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) has fined Gudozhnikov $7,500 while also issuing a ban of 30 months, starting on 4th Feb 2021, after a ruling by Ian Mill QC – an anti corruption hearing officer.

The Russian national, who is unranked and has not played in a major tournament since 2018, is barred from attending any tennis event which is planned by the governing bodies.

Gudozhnikov failed to co-operate with authorities and, therefore, was guilty of breaking the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP) section F.2.b rule:

“All covered persons must cooperate fully with investigations conducted by the TIU including giving evidence at hearings, if requested.”

No further details were provided regarding the investigation.

Tennis is notorious for match fixing and corruption – especially at lower levels of the game. To address this issue the Tennis Integrity Unit was set up in 2008 to battle this problem and were given the authority to ban players, umpires and any other tennis official who participates in tournaments.

Since their existence the ITIA has issued more than 25 lifetime bans, with the latest ones coming just last month due to match-fixing as Sofia Dmitrieva and Alija Merdeeva were both banned.
