Thai authorities bust illegal gambling den in Nakhon Nayok

Thai authorities arrested more than 200 gamblers and bookmakers in a late-night raid on an illegal gambling den in Nakhon Nayok. The venue, which had been operating under high security and modern facilities, was shut down by law enforcement.

Details of the raid

According to the Bangkok Post, the operation was carried out on 3 February 2025, around 22:30, in a concerted effort coordinated by the Department of Provincial Administration’s Special Operations Unit. The raid was meticulously planned, with officers storming the premises simultaneously to secure the operation as promptly as possible.

The investigation followed a complaint filed with the Nakhon Nayok Provincial Ombudsman Centre and the Ministry of Interior Ombudsman Centre. The complaint indicated that the establishment was operating illegally, being open 24 hours a day to accommodate gamblers.

Authorities had been tracking the casino for months based on reports of high-security operations and a continuous flow of gamblers. The venue functioned with great security, with all entry points locked and CCTV ensuring no unauthorised persons were allowed entry.

Upon entering the premises, authorities found a fully air-conditioned facility equipped with multiple gambling stations, tables, and high-value betting chips. A total of 218 individuals involved in gambling activities, including staff members, were detained.

During the operation, a substantial amount of assets was seized, including 560,570 baht (approx. $16,559.24) in cash and gambling chips valued at approximately 2.4 million baht, totalling around 3 million baht in assets. Additionally, several gambling machines were confiscated, and 50 vehicles were impounded.

The detainees were charged with gambling, which in Thailand can result in a penalty of a fine or imprisonment. Further investigations are being conducted to uncover and prosecute those who run and finance the illegal operation.

Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Anutin Charnvirakul, emphasised the government’s commitment to enforcing anti-crime policies and eliminating illegal gambling activities.

Charnvirakul stated, “The Ministry of Interior has to focus on social order to create a peaceful society and an orderly country and to let go of vices and ensure the safety of the people. Anything that conflicts with this aim is something that we must allow the state mechanism to eliminate.”

Authorities have pledged to intensify crackdowns across the country, focusing on dismantling illegal gambling networks and preventing further criminal activities.

Separate raid in Bangmon, Bangkok

On 2 February 2025, police in Bangmon, Bangkok, dismantled another illegal gambling operation and arrested 24 individuals at a private residence. Officers confiscated gambling paraphernalia, cash, and a notebook containing betting records. The main suspect, Mr Sor, 43, admitted to organising the illegal activities.
