Vietnam Recreational and Electronic Sports Association (VIRESA), FPT Online, and Funtap have signed a cooperation agreement aimed at propelling the national esports movement to new heights. This partnership, formalised on 25th April in Hanoi, signifies a concerted effort to develop and diversify Vietnam’s esports community, with a particular focus on the popular mobile game Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB).
VIRESA has led the charge in advancing electronic sports within Vietnam. As the regulator, it has a key role to play in hosting tournaments, imposing regulations, and developing talent across various fields of esports. FPT Online, which is part of FPT Corporation, is one of Vietnam’s leading digital content and online game players. With its online platform and content delivery expertise, it is an important partner within this partnership. Funtap is renowned for its success in the mobile gaming industry, particularly in publishing and developing engaging mobile games. Its experience and resources are crucial for the growth of mobile esports in Vietnam.
The alliance aims to offer strategic advice to develop and grow the Vietnamese esports community. By synergising the strengths of each organisation, they will work to develop a strong ecosystem supporting amateur and professional gamers. Among the key emphases is constructing and growing esports communities throughout Vietnam. This entails holding local competitions, developing online platforms for exchange, and building grassroots involvement.
The partnership aims to foster an end-to-end and systematic growth of esports in Vietnam. Mobile Legends: Bang Bang has developed an enormous popularity base in Vietnam and is one of the most widely played mobile esports games. It is highly accessible and has highly competitive gameplay that has earned gamers’ affection.
The partnership will provide support to national MLBB teams, ensuring they have the resources and training necessary to compete at the highest levels. This includes access to coaching, facilities, and international exposure. With events like the SEA Games, Asian Games, and Asian Esports Games on the horizon, the collaboration aims to prepare Vietnamese teams to excel on the international stage, bringing home medals and recognition.
The trio plans to collaborate with reputable businesses to introduce new esports-related game products to Vietnam. This diversification will enrich the gaming landscape and offer more opportunities for players.
Độ Mixi, Vietnam’s well-known gaming influencer with close to eight million fans, was chosen as the brand ambassador for MLBB. His fame is likely to draw in more fans and gamers to play the game. In his role as ambassador, Độ Mixi will conduct promotional campaigns, fan outreach, and potentially mentor young esports athletes. His participation reflects the dedication to raising MLBB’s profile in Vietnam.
One of the long-term goals is to bring major international esports tournaments to Vietnam. Hosting such events will not only boost the local economy but also position Vietnam as a key player in the global esports arena.
