Two Brazilian clubs investigated over “ghost game” during lockdown

The game that some claim never took place, reportedly generated £1.4m in wagers

Due to the epidemic, most football leagues around the world have been suspended. Even if few games took place, these were held behind closed doors to prohibit fans from entering. However ‘The Sun’ has revealed that a ‘ghost game’ was held in Brazil.

No game was held but the two teams fabricated statistics and scores attracting about £1.4 million pounds stake from the bookmaker.

The game took place on the 25th of March. The teams ‘playing’ were Brazilian Andraus Brasil and Gremio Serrano and the score was Andraus 1-2 loss to Gremio Serrano. Since many football leagues in the world were suspended at the time, although this was only a contest between Brazil’s low-level teams, it still attracted the attention of the gaming industry.

According to statistics, more than 200 bookmakers from all over the world tried their odds for this game, and eventually 1.4 million pounds were generated in wagers.

However, a preliminary investigation found that this game had never actually been played.

Mattias Mendes, an integrity supervisor from an unknown iGaming company, told Brazil’s Universal Sports: “The so-called ghost games are games that are not played in accordance with the agreed method. These games are falsely provided to dealers and gamblers. In order to make a profit in the gaming market.’

Matthias Mendes also pointed out: ‘There is no evidence that the game was played, and the statistics of the game are not logical. ‘

The presidents of the Football Associations in the regions where the two teams belonged said that the investigation is still ongoing.
