Ukraine: Merkur and Ukraine’s regulator announces strategic partnership

Merkur Gaming International has also opened a showroom in Kiev

Merkur Gaming, part of Gauselmann Group, and the Expert Advisory Council of the Ukraine Lottery and Gaming Regulatory Commission (EACGRLC) have signed an agreement of understanding and co-operation with each other.

This memorandum comes into effect after Ukraine issued their first licence for the first time since 2009.

The agreement between Merkur and the EACGRLC states that Merkur (who have over 60 years of experience) will assist Ukraine in creating a well-regulated, socially responsible and robust gaming industry within the country.

CEO of Merkur Gaming, Athanasios Isaakidis, expressed his delight at the new agreement:

Athanasios Isaakidis - SiGMA News

“This is truly an exciting time and a great opportunity. Coming as it does in the current pandemic climate, the news from the Ukraine is inspiring for us and for the entire gaming industry. Historically, difficult times have always created opportunities and that is clearly the case here.

Merkur Gaming is absolutely committed to bringing its huge experience – as both a manufacturer and as a successful operator – to work alongside the authorities in creating a new market opportunity that will create many new jobs, create new wealth and which will be, by law, a socially responsible gaming environment within Ukraine.’

Merkur has also created a physical presence within Ukraine by opening up a showroom in Kiev that will showcase all their latest gaming equipment. The equipment is designed by operators but then optimised to fit the needs and demands of the Ukrainian market.

Currently, anyone who wishes to visit their showroom must request an appointment due to COVID19 restrictions.
Furthermore, Merkur Gaming has also announced that they have a strategic partner to handle sales, after-sales service and technical and logistical support capabilities.

This strategic partnership agreement is set to be in place for several years as Ukraine’s casino and slots market continues to expand at a fast rate.

On the 2nd of February, 2021, the Commission for the Regulation of Gambling issued the first gambling licence. The first licence was issued to an online casino operator, Cosmolot.

Ukraine opening their market is a truly significant milestone for the Ukrainian gambling market, showing to both domestic and foreign investors that the gambling market in Ukraine has begun to fully operate.

SiGMA also held our first virtual Roadshow in Ukraine which focused on several interesting topics such as, but not limited to, the opportunities and challenges of the Ukrainian market.
