The summit was a focal point for discussing Africa’s gaming future, with key figures like Stuart Trigwell, Director of Business Development at Play’n GO, emphasising the industry’s growing momentum in South Africa. “Play’n GO entered the South African market last year, and today’s event is a testament to the expanding focus on Africa,” said Trigwell. The event attracted top-tier operators, all keen to build on the progress made as the region continues to develop both technologically and culturally.
Alderman James Vos, Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth underscored Cape Town’s role as a key hub for business development. “Our mission is to make Cape Town the easiest place to do business. With gaming playing a big role in our economy, hosting events like SiGMA helps attract more businesses and position Cape Town as a jurisdiction of choice,” he explained. The city’s vibrant growth is a testament to the strategic importance of events like SiGMA in connecting Africa with global markets.
Jean De Villiers, a rugby legend and passionate advocate for networking, shared his insights on the significance of events like SiGMA summits in fostering collaboration. “The ability to network and meet new people is what events like SiGMA are all about. They provide a platform for innovative solutions that will drive the industry forward,” he remarked. Speakers like Weldon Koros, Director of the Association of Gaming Regulators in Africa, highlighted the ongoing efforts to harmonise gaming standards across the continent. “Harmonisation is key to ensuring the future of Africa’s gaming market. Good regulations are essential for the industry’s growth,” Koros stated. His sentiments were echoed by Robin Bennet of the Western Cape Compliance Board, who emphasised the need for responsible gaming alongside market growth.
The gaming sector in Africa is thriving, with sports playing a central role. Over 600 million mobile users and a growing market for esports highlight the continent’s mobile-first nature. “Esports is a total ecosystem. It’s about developing a new future where iGaming and esports work hand in hand,” said Kwesi Hayford, President of the Esports Association of Ghana. Mobile platforms, digital wallets, and secure transactions are powering Africa’s gaming revolution, making it one of the most dynamic markets in the world.
Blockchain technology is also playing a pivotal role in Africa’s gaming future, providing security, transparency, and trust to the financial transactions that underpin the sector. Charles Herisson, Investor & Revenue Growth Expert, pointed out that “regulated markets are essential for long-term investment and stability,” adding that blockchain will continue to shape Africa’s gaming landscape for years to come.
SiGMA Africa 2025 reaffirmed the continent’s immense potential. Eman Pulis, Founder of SiGMA Group, expressed optimism about the region’s future. “We are bringing the gaming community together to discuss harmonisation, stronger regulation, and a sustainable future.
