It was supposed to be a toe-to-toe battle between the two teams since both managed to score four wins for themselves leading up to the match.  

This wasn’t the case, as team England went in full-throttle and never lost momentum. While David Humphreys stepped up to score all the points for the Irish team in the first half, the latter remained consistent. The result came out to be 42-6 in favor of Team England, and they rightfully carried that Grand Slam title.  

Italy Beats Scotland (February 24, 2007) 

Italy’s finest hour in the Six Nations rugby tournament came after two years of underwhelming performances. The Azzurri came up emptyhanded during the 2005 and 2006 Six Nations Championships, so expectations weren’t exactly mounting for them to deliver any wins.  

The Italy team gained the advantage early on, as stellar performances from Mauro Bergamasco, Kaine Robertson, and Andrea Scanavacca led to the scoreboard reflecting 21-0 in just seven minutes. Scotland still pushed, and there was a ray of hope for their recovery, but the overall score ended up being 17-37, with Italy emerging victorious.  

Wales Shakes Up Ireland (March 21, 2009) 

The thrill of a close call is unmatched in rugby matches, and this is exactly what fans received during the Wales vs Ireland match in the 2009 Six Nations Championship finals. Both Ireland and Wales faced each other with four wins in the tank, and the stakes for the Ireland team were unbelievably high since their last win was back in 1948.  

Their match had players on the edge of their seats, as the Irish offense proved to be ineffective against an impenetrable Welsh defense during the first half. However, the second half was much more eventful for the Ireland team, as Ronan O’Gara coordinated with Tommy Bowe and Brian O’Driscoll to deliver scores and scores.  

The Welsh didn’t seem to give up either, as with just four minutes left in the match’s duration, the score was 15-14. Luckily, O’Gara’s famous drop-goal saved the day for Ireland and helped the team break over 61 years of no Grand Slam wins.  

England & Scotland Tie (March 16, 2019) 

This Six Nations Championship match left fans on both sides clamoring for more, though neither side felt the satisfaction of victory. England gained the upper hand in the match by remaining a few steps ahead, and with mere minutes left on the clock, the score of 38-31 was in their favor.  

However, the Scottish team had other plans. George Ford kept on the offensive, which worked, and in the end, the score was 38-38. The then Scotland captain Andy Nicol famously said after the game, “I don’t know how to feel. Am I elated we got back in, or am I gutted we got into a winning position and didn’t make it?” 

France’s Tremendous Win Over England (March 11, 2023) 

Here’s a blast from the recent past—France’s Les Bleus delivered a staggering blow to England during the 2023 Six Nations Championship. The French team dominated the match through, with the final score being England 10-53 France. It was so devastating to the English team that coach Steve Borthwick admitted to the difference in quality between the two teams being obvious.  

While there might not be too many noteworthy moments from France in their Six Nations stint, it’s important to note that they’ve scored six titles throughout their run. As for team England, the loss was made much worse by the fact that it was a defeat on their home turf.
