Donut Division takes us to the mean streets of an unnamed sunlight-soaked city in the 1970s, where all sorts of nefarious activities take place, but rarely remain unpunished. That’s because four brilliant detectives, Harry, Tom, Burt, and Chief Roger, investigate all the wrongdoings in the city. Their sharp wits, fueled by takeaway coffee and generous amounts of donuts, can outsmart any evil mastermind.  

The protagonist detectives all have cute beer bellies and wear mustaches and haircuts that you’ll rarely see on law enforcement officers nowadays. Oh, and sunglasses, of course. After cracking countless cases, this time, they take us with them on an adventure across the best online casinos in pursuit of a hidden bounty that’s worth 12,500x the bet. 

The lower-paying symbols are designed as a takeaway coffee cup, a traffic cone, a rotation light, a police walkie-talkie, and finally, a glazed donut. All of them are items we commonly associate with police day-to-day work. The higher-paying symbols are the portraits of the four protagonists. Whenever I review a new game, I’m always curious to see how the developer designed the playing grid. This time, it’s set on the back of a van during the regular spins and the Stakeout spins, while during the Warehouse spins, the symbols land on a metallic shelf. 

Donut division is visually presented in a cartoonish, or comic book-style design. As somebody who pays a disproportional amount of attention to visual design, I was absolutely pleased with the expressive drawing and coloring of this game. The color pattern is characterized by the contrast between the bold-colored playing symbols and the sepia-toned background. The eponymous donuts are the famous, pink-glazed Simpson donuts, which shine like diamonds in the sunlight.  

The soundtrack is a simple, funky melody that sounds like the opening of an older crime series and is totally on point for the game’s overall theme. What I also highly appreciate about this game are the animations. They’re more on the subtle side and don’t overwhelm you while playing, but they’re amazingly creative. For example, instead of the cascading coins that are so common in most slot games, this time, we have cascading… you’ve guessed it — donuts! 

Also, when a bigger win is achieved, and the counter is tallying the win amount, we get to see glimpses of the detectives in action while they do their investigative work, disguised as a pizza delivery guy, a bell boy, a fitness coach, or just a little boy with a lollipop… and a mustache. 

The volatility is classified as medium, and the game’s loading screen displays it as a 3 out of 5. That was also my personal impression while playing the game. It’s not too risky and rewards regularly. Even though dry streaks may occasionally occur, they’re usually not too long and can easily be covered by consequential wins.  

The Donut Division RTP stands at 96.3%, which is excellent and generally above average for industry standards. The max win is a solid 12,500x. It’s not quite the highest I’ve seen, but it’s still pretty hefty, especially for a game that doesn’t fall into the high-volatility class.

Gooey Guns – When it lands, this gun-shaped symbol shoots green, gooey wilds to its left until it fills every position on its row with them, after which it becomes a wild itself. It comes with a multiplier of 1x to 100x, and each wild it shoots gets the same multiplier. After the row is filled with wilds, their multipliers sum up and apply to each payline they cross. If 6 wilds are connected in the same row — which can happen only if the gooey gun lands on the rightmost reel — a bonus of 5x is added to the total multiplier.  

Bonus Choice – Landing 3 or 4 scatter symbols trigger a Bonus Choice menu where you get to pick between two types of free spins: 

• Landing 3 scatters gives you a choice between the Warehouse and the Stakeout spins. 

• Landing 4 scatters gives you a choice between the Super Warehouse and the Super Stakeout spins. 

Warehouse Spins – The Donut Division slot moves to a dark warehouse, where two officers search the inventory with flashlights to find valuable bonuses. On the other hand, whenever an officer picks a special symbol, their lives are fully refilled. There are 4 different special symbols: 

• Adding Multiplier – Lands values from 1x to 100x that add up to the total multiplier. 

• Multiplying Multiplier – Lands values from 2x to 10x that multiplies the total multiplier. 

• Battery – Increases the flashlight’s range and reveals symbols within a 3×3 diameter; all special ones within the area are collected. 

• Light Switch – Sheds light on the entire grid and reveals all symbols; all special ones are collected. 

The Warehouse mini game continues for as long as lives are being refilled. A total multiplier calculates the sum of all collected multipliers and applies it to your base bet when the game ends. By the way, the life symbols are designed as heart-shaped donuts. How appropriate is that, huh! 

Super Warehouse Spins – The same as the basic Warehouse spins, but all multiplier symbols come with values of at least 5x.
