Tombstone Slaughter: El Gordo’s Revenge

The infamous outlaw El Gordo is dead. He’s been publicly humiliated and executed. His enemies revel, confident that their hassle is over and that they can now continue their nefarious activities without an even more nefarious character to bother them. But El Gordo’s daughter has sworn to avenge him, and hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.  

Tombstone Slaughter: El Gordo’s Revenge is a Western-themed game, but unlike the lighthearted and adventurous spirit that’s usually tied to the Wild West, this game brings us dread, blood, and death. You don’t often come across a slot game that has the word slaughter in its name.  

As expected, the visual idea of the game is impressive. The playing grid is designed as a wooden board that resembles a saloon door, while the background consists of a rundown Wild West town that was probably a normal place before Miss El Gordo stepped in. The evening sky is gray from the thick smoke that rises from houses set ablaze. I don’t remember another slot game that encapsulates the feeling of desperation as well as Tombstone Slaughter: El Gordo’s Revenge does. Even NLC’s typical humorous element is absent this time.  

While the lower-paying symbols are the regular 10, J, Q, K, and A with a typical Western font, the higher-paying symbols present five atrocious characters. A malicious-looking lady, a cunning, unsavory gentleman with a bowler hat, a brutish-looking bearded thug, a native chieftain who appears as anything but wise and humble, and the deadly Miss El Gordo Herself. 

When I said that hardly anyone matches the way Nolimit City pushes the boundaries in the slot game industry, I meant it. When I accidentally clicked on a random spot on the screen that wasn’t a button, a gunshot rang, and the screen shattered like glass. What was that!? I clicked again on a different spot, and it repeated. Then I clicked on the grid on one of the Character symbols, and to my surprise, the Character let out a painful scream and… died. Tombstone Slaughter: El Gordo’s Revenge literally lets you kill the game’s Characters. This does not impact the gameplay itself; it’s just for the experience. And that’s exactly what NLC brings to the table. 

Tombstone Slaughter: El Gordo’s Revenge is designed in a somehow cartoonish manner, but with an almost aquarelle visual appearance. The grid and symbols lack sharp contours, and the grim colors look blurred and worn out. Animations are very aggressive and expressive, with gunshots, fire, and blood splashes hitting the screen, especially during free spins. 

The game’s soundtrack also deserves attention. While playing San Quentin 2: Death Row, I was amazed by how much atmosphere a good soundtrack can add to a slot game, and Tombstone Slaughter: El Gordo’s Revenge is another proof of it. I don’t remember ever hearing a Western soundtrack with as much dark ambiance as the one in this game. There’s the standard guitar and whistle, but also a dark background ambient tune that creates an ambience of absolute dread. Almost like a horror movie. Very, very dark, but brilliant. 

Tombstone Slaughter: El Gordo’s Revenge RTP is a comfortable 96.01%, which is high enough to satisfy even the most discerning players, and probably the only comfortable thing about this game. At least one aspect of it goes easy on us. 

As for the volatility, calling it high would be an understatement. Extreme would be a fair description, though insane is probably closer to the truth. The base spins are pretty stingy, so be ready for long, dry streaks. As dry as the arid landscape of Arizona. On the other hand, the two types of free spins can produce some massive wins in just a few rounds. The game’s plentiful special symbols can create surreal combinations with wins that will kick you off your chair. 

The max win of Tombstone Slaughter: El Gordo’s Revenge is a staggering 500,000x. Yes, in other words, half a million. I had to count the digits twice to make sure it’s not actually 50 thousand, but indeed, it’s half a bloody million.

The playing grid of Tombstone Slaughter: El Gordo’s Revenge consists of 6 reels with an interesting setup of 2-3-3-3-3-2 rows. The middle 4 reels behave in a pretty regular way, landing every type of symbol, regular and special one. The leftmost reel lands only the regular paying symbols, but not special ones. Meanwhile, the rightmost reel lands only revolver symbols or 2-high stacked regular symbols, and only higher-paying, or Characters symbols. However, it remains inactive if only half-symbols land, so only a fully stacked symbol that covers the entire reel will impact the game.

I wouldn’t say that Nolimit City outdid itself this time, as some of its games you can find on the best online casinos boast even more features, but it certainly loaded this one with plenty. Let’s have a look at them. 

xNudge Wild – An NLC classic, it’s stacked wild symbol that nudges its way until it covers the whole reel, and with each nudge, it increases its multiplier by 1.

Slaughter Scatter – Just a regular scatter, but everything in this game is about slaughtering, hence the name. Landing 3 of them will trigger the Slaughter spins, while landing 3 of them + a Revolver symbol will trigger Massacre spins. Landing just 2 of them converts them into Reel Split Wilds, which split themselves and every symbol on their reel in two, doubling their value. 

Quickdraw – A Revolver symbol that lands only on the rightmost reel during both regular and free spins. Landing it together with 3 Slaughter symbol will trigger Massacre spins. Landing a fully loaded revolver by itself will shoot at random symbols on the grid and trigger 3 to 6 special features where its bullets hit: 

• Backstab Wild – It turns a randomly selected regular paying symbol into a wild. 

• Shootout Wild – It turns all instances of a randomly selected regular paying symbol into wilds. 

• xSplit – It splits a randomly selected symbol in half. If it hits an xNudge, it doubles its multiplier instead. 

• Infectious xSplit – It splits all instances of a randomly selected symbol in half.  

• Justice Wild – It places an xNudge Wild on a randomly selected symbol on reels 2 to 5, which then does its usual thing and nudges its way until fully visible. 

• Boothill Multiplier – It upgrades a randomly selected Character with a multiplier of x5 – x999 (possible values are 5x, 6x, 7x, 8x, 9x, 10x, 11x, 12x, 22x, 36x, 44x, 45x, 54x, 58x, 90x, 310x, 523x, 718x, 805x, 999x) 

Slaughter Spins – Landing 3 Slaughter symbols will trigger 5 Slaughter spins. The Revenge Meter appears on the bottom of the grid, starts with level 1, and can go up to level 5. The rightmost reel will land only fully stacked Character symbols or a Revolver symbol, which now has 2 more special features in addition to the 6 regular ones: 

• Killcount Multiplier – It adds a multiplier of 1x to 89x (possible values are 5x, 6x, 7x, 8x, 9x, 10x, 15x, 21x, 99x) to the next levels or the last level on the Revenge Meter. 

• Revenge Level Up – It upgrades the Revenge Meter to the next level. 

Landing 4 Slaughter symbols in the base game will trigger 5 Slaughter spins with 2 spots on the Revenge meter filled. Each Revenge level gets an upgraded xNudge multiplier of 1x, 4x, 5x, 6x, and 7x, respectively. If a full Revolver lands during Slaughter spins, it upgrades the remaining spins to Massacre spins and grants an additional 2 spins. 

Massacre Spins – Landing 3 Slaughter symbols and 1 Revolver in the base game will trigger 5 Massacre spins. They are the same as Slaughter spins, but the Revolver symbol becomes sticky on the rightmost reel.  

Landing 4 Slaughter symbols and 1 Revolver symbol in the base game will trigger 5 Massacre spins, with 2 spots on the Revenge meter filled. Each Revenge level also gets an upgraded Nudge multiplier of 1x, 4x, 5x, 6x, and 7x, respectively. 

Revenge Meter – The more enemies you massacre, the higher the Revenger Meter. It appears on the bottom of the grid during Slaughter and Massacre spins, starts from level 1, and can go up to level 5. The starting multiplier for any xNudge that lands is set at 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, and 5x for each level of the Meter, respectively. Each bonus symbol that lands adds +1 spin and +1 point to the Revenge Meter. The Meter advances to the next level for every 4 special symbols collected.
