Chris Philp, O Ministro de Tecnologia e Economia Digital do Reino Unido usou seu discurso na conferência para delinear os esforços do Reino Unido para garantir que os jogos de azar online sejam uma parte segura, mas saudável, da crescente economia digital
Em um painel intitulado “Colaboração na prevenção de danos aos jogos de azar”, Philp discorreu sobre seus dois principais objetivos como ministro: tornar o Reino o “lugar mais seguro do mundo para se conectar à Internet, estabelecendo o padrão global de segurança na Internet” e dando aos jogos de azar Faça uma “revisão abrangente” para garantir que está atualizado para a era digital moderna.

A revisão da Gambling Act visa abordar uma ampla gama de questões com a convocação oficial de evidências recebendo 16.000 inscrições. Philp também afirmou que um Livro Branco seria publicado nos meses seguintes.
Elaborando as medidas que seriam tomadas para evitar a habilitação do jogo compulsivo ou perigoso, a exigência de holerites ou extratos bancários de clientes acima de £ 100 libras pode ser considerada intrusiva, mas é mais do que justificada além de um certo ponto. Outra forma mais aceitável de regulamentação seria uma nova abordagem usando tecnologia de ponta e métricas de dados. Philp aponta para a criação de um sistema semelhante ao utilizado pelas agências de referência de crédito mais modernas. Esta seria uma forma mais suave de conformidade, mesmo que níveis mais elevados de jogos de azar requeiram verificações mais intrusivas. On the issue of data protection, Philp elaborated that any data sharing would be done according to stringent protocols ensuring that the data is safe, secure and that the amount of data taken is proportional to the situation. In this, the Gambling Commission will be supported by the Information Commissioner’s Office to ensure that the SCV will be carried out with the values of data protection close at heart. Referring to the data sharing systems currently used by the financial sector as a benchmark, Philp called on the stakeholders in the audience to work hand-in-hand with regulators to create a system that helps create and maintain a high standard of customer protection.
Concluding with an elaboration on the role of the main regulator, Philp noted that the role of the Gambling Commission will be instrumental for any attempt at making the UK Gambling market a safer economic ecosystem. Working closely with the Chair and Chief Executive of the Commission, he promises that the review of the Gambing Act will be as thorough as necessary. Referring to their success in banning gambling with credit cards, stricter compliance for age regulations and the Commission’s actions during COVID, Philp noted that the regulator will be a cornerstone of the industry’s future.
