Asia Pioneer Entertainment looks to launch new business segment in response to COVID-19 related losses

The casino gaming equipment distributor is working on launching Smart Vending Machines around Macau

During Asia Pioneer Entertainment’s 2020 annual report, the firm revealed that they are working on launching Smart Vending Machines around Macau.

These installations are designed in response to the COVID-19 related losses as the company saw its annual loss grow by 10 times in 2020 as the revenue fell to 50.6%.

In a statement issued APE said “Smart Vending will use the latest generation of vending machines with coin and electronic payments. Initially Smart Vending will offer soft drinks and snacks which will later expand to travel gift goods and household items. The Group has ordered several smart vending machines for trial and testing, signed agreements with several local product suppliers, and started looking for locations for our smart vending machines in Macau SAR.”

AllenThe chairman of the company, Allen Huie Tat Yan, stated the firm remained “concerned about the impact of the ongoing Covid-19 epidemic on the operations of its land-based operators in the Macau Special Administrative Region and Southeast Asia”.

APE reported a loss of HK$32 million in 2020 and this business will see the casino gaming equipment distributor and technical support specialist get back on its feet.

Yan added that “after extensive market research, the group had decided to move into smart vending as an underserved market” in Macau, and one that was “particularly relevant in a post-Covid-19 environment, we are hopeful and confident that the smart vending business will supplement our core electronic gaming equipment business to the benefit of all shareholders.’

So far the firm has ordered 15 machines to be placed around parts of Macau where there is high foot traffic.
