Kindred Group CEO Henrik Tjärnström steps down

Nils Andén’s extensive experience positions him as the ideal interim CEO

Kindred Group plc disclosed that CEO Henrik Tjärnström has tendered his resignation to the Board of Directors, which will be effective immediately. In response, the Board of Directors swiftly designated Nils Andén as the interim CEO, with immediate effect. He had been leading the company since 2010.

This resignation builds upon the recent disclosure of Johan Wilsby’s forthcoming exit as CFO earlier this week. Resignations saw a slight dip in Kindred’s share price to SEK 126.45 ($12.09). Nevertheless, the company’s stock has been on the rise in the past month, while its Q1 report demonstrated significant growth in revenue and pre-tax profit.

Kindred Group’s Chief Commercial Officer, Nils Anden, commented saying “I look very much forward to working closely with our board of directors, the executive management team, and all employees to achieve the goals of Kindred,

“I re-joined Kindred in 2020 as its chief commercial officer, after having had positions within Kindred between 2006 and 2016 as head of poker, head of established markets and chief marketing officer for the Unibet brand. I have a strong belief in our organisation and the business models that have made this company so successful and am more confident than ever in Kindred’s potential.”

The Board of Directors have chosen Nils Andén as the Interim CEO.

Before his departure, Andén held various positions within the company, back when it was predominantly known as Unibet. From 2006 to 2007, he served as the leader of Business Development, followed by his role as the Head of Poker from 2008 to 2009. Eventually, Andén progressed to the position of Chief Marketing Officer, which he held from 2012 to 2016.

During the interim period between his two stints at Kindred, Andén remained active in the gaming industry. From September 2017 to December 2019, he worked as the Director of Digital Marketing at GVC Group, subsequently known as Entain.

Speaking on the matter Kindred Group chairman Evert Carlsson commented “Henrik has been at the helm through many important milestones passed by Kindred and has undoubtedly put his mark in both the history of the company and the industry.

“Thus, on behalf of the board of directors and all shareholders I would like to thank Henrik for his valuable contributions to the success of Kindred throughout the years he has led the company and wish him well in his future endeavours.”

“The board of directors is equally pleased and excited to appoint Nils Andén as interim CEO,” he added. “Nils is naturally very knowledgeable about the operations of Kindred, having worked with Henrik in the executive management team of Kindred. The board of directors deems that Nils is ideally suited to assume this role in these pivotal times for Kindred.”

The company did not provide any specific cause for the sudden and surprising departure.
