President of the Philippines has ‘huge trust’ in Russia’s vaccine

Russian President Putin, yesterday (11th August) announced that after two months of human subject research, the Russian Ministry of Health has approved the world’s first COVID-19 vaccine.

President of the Philippines on the same day stated that the Philippines is ready to cooperate with Russia to conduct local clinical trials and production of the proposed COVID-19 vaccine, but all above will need to meet the local testing and health standards to ensure the safety and effectiveness for Filippinos.

Any drug or vaccine must be certified by the Philippine Food and Drug Administration (FDA) before it can be commercially sold in the Philippines.

Chief of President of the PhilippinesRobert Borje, assistant for the President of the Philippines for Foreign Affairs, said in the statement:

‘Philippines thanks Russia for its cooperation to jointly fight COVID-19. The Philippines stands ready to work with Russia in clinical trials, vaccine supply and production, and other areas deemed feasible between the Philippines and Russia to deal with this global health emergency.’

That international cooperation is remaining an essential factor in effectively preventing the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Presidential Palace also stated: “In accordance with the President’s independent foreign policy, we will continue to work with partners around the world to ensure the access of safe COVID-19 vaccine.”

As China and Russia have successively provided COVID-19 vaccines to the Philippines, Philippine President Duterte recently expressed his hope to create a ‘COVID-free’ community before Christmas so that the people in Philippines can enjoy the warm Christmas season.
