The wait is over: Malta Week opens its doors to a global crowd

After so many months of eager expectation, Day 1 of Malta Week is finally here. With doors opening to thousands of delegates for pre-registration yesterday, SiGMA continues to expand on its objective to serve as a connection for organisations looking to connect interests across continents. Malta Week has been making its mark on the global gaming map, reinforced by a distinctive mid-Med position for years and this year is already looking like it will be a new record breaker.

What went down yesterday:

Events started yesterday with a VIP Golf tourney at the Royal Malta Golf Club. Kim Borg, Josh Turk, Jamie Mitchell, and Melvin Ritsema were crowned winners.

Other events also included a competitive-friendly Poker tourney with, Paul Onete, Vice President Product and Operations at Skywind Group taking home the first prize jackpot of 1k.

International delegates also had the chance to get familiar with Malta through a cultural guided tour organised by SiGMA Group where they strolled through the vibrant streets of Valletta witnessing the beauty and charm of the fortified city built by the Knights in 1566. The tour then closed off at Malta’s medieval city of Mdina.

Additionally, SiGMA Group’s own venture fund, Ikigai Ventures, hosted an Ikigai Retreat at the Phonecia Malta yesterday which was exclusively restricted to 30 qualified VCs and angel investors as well as 8 pre-qualified start-ups seeking fundraising. This was the perfect opportunity for them to mingle and nurture connections.

The SiGMA Awards and the Streamer Awards both took place yesterday evening as well at Hilton Hotel and Sky Club Malta respectively.

With unexpected winners and competitive bidding, the first of six award show held during Malta Week, the SiGMA Awards, got off to a terrific start yesterday by raising an astonishing 91k for charity. Jon Thompson and Elisa Martinotti graciously provided support for and served as hosts of SiGMA’s much-anticipated gala awards ceremony, which honoured notable figures from the gaming, new technology, and affiliation industries.

Last night’s inaugural streamer-focused awards night brought together the streaming community shining a spotlight on top talent in the digital space and celebrating the growth of this nascent industry.
