The state of Texas team up with Las Vegas Sands Corporation’s boss in a bid to legalise some forms of online gambling
The state of Texas and the billionaire boss of world renowned casino operator Las Vegas Sands Corporation, are believed to be investing heavily in a bid to seek reform which would see measures introduced to legalise some forms of online gambling.
According to news outlets within Austin Texas, Mr Sheldon Adelson, whom is currently serving as the chairman and Chief Executive Officer for the Las Vegas-headquartered casino, reportedly injected approximately $4.5 million into the Republican candidates campaign. Further reports state that such a move by Adelson took place after a proposition affecting a constitutional amendment which would permit coastal jurisdictions to premiere iGaming.
A previous effort of the same nature failed earlier during 2020, however, this time around may prove to be decisive due to the fact that the state of Texas is currently in economic turmoil as it has seen a budget shortfall of around $4.6 billion. Not to mention the economic ramifications brought about by the corona virus pandemic.
Mr. Joe Deshotel (pictured) had previously suggested such an amendment to the constitution in order to aid his jurisdiction balance out the high costs of wind storm insurance whilst also providing help in the wake of the catastrophic flood that had severely impacted the community.
The representative of Port Arthur has declared that land based casinos of neighbouring states such as Arkansas, New Mexico, Louisiana and Oklahoma are taking current and potential customers away from Texas and his amendment will help ‘preserve Texas cash in Texas’
“Now is possibly the very best time that the possibility of legalising online casinos has had in fairly some time. We are attempting to stop cash leaving Texas in such giant quantities so that it can instead go into coffers right here and be used to serve Texans who need assistance.”
