Women empowerment takes centre stage: SiGMA Foundation’s latest initiative

Empowering women is a vital step towards creating a more equitable world, and the SiGMA Foundation is proud to announce its latest project aimed at just that. As the globe celebrates International Women’s Day, the Foundation is excited to promote this project and help shine a spotlight on the incredible work being done to uplift and empower women around the world.

SiGMA Foundation’s Women Empowerment Project in Ethiopia

The SiGMA Foundation is thrilled to announce its collaboration with the Catholic Vicariate of Jimma Bonga, Ethiopia for the launch of the Women Empowerment Project. This initiative is dedicated to catalysing positive transformation in the lives of women living in poverty in the region. The project’s main objective is to establish a modern skill development centre that will provide training in a variety of areas, including information technology, cookery, hairdressing, tailoring, and embroidery.

Through the provision of these vital resources for success, the Foundation aims to facilitate women’s empowerment and enable them to acquire the skills necessary to attain sustainable employment and financial autonomy. Furthermore, this endeavour aims to promote local economic growth, decrease the frequency of migration, and ultimately break the cycle of poverty in the region.

This initiative is expected to directly impact 500 women between the ages of 20 to 45 years annually, serving as primary beneficiaries. The project will also indirectly benefit over 2,500 communities in the Bonga area each year. In total, 75% of the project beneficiaries will be women, and 25% will be men.

The Women Empowerment Project requires a projected total investment of €710,321.67, with the Foundation pledging €200,000 towards this noble cause. In order to realize this target, the Foundation is planning a range of fundraising events and will collaborate with partners who share its vision.

The Foundation encourages anyone who desires to contribute to the initiative to come together with them and be a part of the change. Your contribution can begin with a single message sent to the SiGMA Foundation Facebook page. In memory of women who have recently passed away in Malta, certain areas of the project will be named in their honour.
