The SiGMA Eurasia 2024 Awards night, made possibly by courtesy of BetConstruct, was not just a gathering of industry professionals; it was a celebration of innovation, excellence, and philanthropy. AS the evening unfolded, twenty-four awards were handed out in an evening of glamour, entertainment, and giving back, held in grand style at a venue filled with 400 esteemed guests at the Inter Continental Hotel at the Dubai Festival City.

The hosts of the evening, Mark Anthony Borg and Lilly Douse, brought their charm and wit to the forefront, guiding the attendees through a night of celebration and generosity. The culmination of the evening was the auction, hosted by the dynamic Rick Goddard. With his inimitable style and infectious energy, Goddard captivated the audience, driving bids higher and higher with each item up for auction. Including both paintings and sculptures, the auction featured an array of coveted items, all in support of a noble cause. The 7 pieces up for auction were won by Match Liquidity, Payment Center and PIN-UP Partners, who raised an amazing total of €96,000.

What made the auction even more meaningful was that the proceeds would be donated to the , a testament to the industry's commitment to giving back and making a positive impact. Every bid placed was not just a gesture of appreciation for the items on offer but also a contribution to meaningful initiatives championed by the foundation.

Adding to the spectacle were LED dancers, whose electrifying performances dazzled the audience and added an extra layer of excitement to the festivities. This initiative, launched in partnership with Premium Care Kids plastic surgeons’ clinic in Cartagena, Colombia, aims to provide life-changing cleft lip and/or palate reconstructive surgeries to children in need.

John Farrugia, Managing Partner, EMCS sheds light on how this project aligns perfectly with its core ethos ’Inspired to Achieve’. As part of their support, EMCS contributed to the project aimed at funding the reconstructive surgeries, aligning with the Foundation's mission to bring smiles and hope to children in Colombia. This support has been instrumental in the success of the G.L.O.W campaign, which has funded approximately 60 reconstructive surgeries for children born with this condition in northern Colombia.

The SiGMA Foundation, in collaboration with Premium Care Kids plastic surgeons’ clinic, recently organized a trek through the Lost City trail in the Sierra Nevada Mountain range to raise awareness and funds for the G.L.O.W campaign. Among the participants were two representatives from EMCS, Stefano Mallia, Partner EMCS and Faye Mallia, Manager Marketing & Media, EMCS.

Stefano Mallia, shared his reflections on our journey. “Witnessing the joy of giving children a smile has been an unparalleled experience, resonating deeply with our team. The journey began months ago with a vision to make a difference in the lives of children in need. A group of amazing individuals embarked on a transformative adventure, culminating in a trek through the Sierra Nevada Forest in Colombia. The destination: Premium Care Kids Clinic in Cartagena, where the team witnessed the impact of their hard work and dedication to the Cleft Lip and Palate Reconstruction Project.

The four-day tested the participants' endurance and determination. From rigorous training schedules to fundraising events that went beyond expectations, the team's commitment was unwavering. The trek began on Tuesday, January 23rd, leading the team through the breathtaking Sierra Nevada Forest.

In one of his posts post trek, Keith Marshall expressed his pride in standing alongside the resilient individuals who had withstood extensive uphill battles amidst scorching heat, exhaustion, and encounters with nature's relentless challenges. He acknowledged the hardships, including bites and stings from sand flies, midges, and mosquitoes as the team made their way deep into the heart of the Colombian jungle, ultimately reaching the awe-inspiring Lost City.

Following their journey, the team spent a day at on Monday, January 29th, for the official inauguration of the collaboration between the SiGMA Foundation and Premium Care Kids. Families whose children have undergone successful surgeries were present, sharing stories of renewed hope and brighter futures. The trekkers were also able to witness first hand the transformation that the kids underwent as a number of surgeries were held on the day.

The journey to Cartagena was not merely a trek through the Sierra Nevada Forest; it was a collective effort to piece together a beautiful picture for children in need. The SiGMA Foundation team's dedication, coupled with the impactful collaboration with Premium Care Kids, reinforces the idea that together, we can create lasting change and bring smiles to the faces of those who need it most.

For many people around the globe, boarding a plane is no more out of the ordinary than taking a bus. But for an extraordinary team of people, this evening, boarding towards their final destination, Colombia, signals the start of an incredible journey that will see them trek in aid of the Cleft Lip and Palate Reconstruction Project, made possible through an incredible partnership between the and .

The team has set off on a remarkable journey - a four-day Lost City Trek in the Sierra Nevada Forest in Colombia, where post-trek, the team will meet the kids benefitting from this campaign.

The 4-day long trek starts this Tuesday 23rd and on Monday the 29th, the team will spend the day at the Premium Care Kids Clinic for the official inauguration of the project. Kids who have already been operated on with funds already distributed and are fully recovered have been invited for the inauguration together with their families. Present on the day will also be a number of families whose child is due to have the corrective surgery this year and will have their consultation on the day.

The 4-day trek is not for the faint-heartened. The participants have been training hard for months to take on the challenge. From going on treks with 8 kg loads on their backs, to working their way into shape, Rocky style, up and down the 187 steps leading to Għajn Tuffieħa Bay (in Mġarr, Malta).

Anyone signing up for the trek had to commit to sponsoring one child, which meant raising Eur800 to fund one operation. However, many of the participants went completely beyond the call of duty. Various fundraising events were organised ranging from baking, fitness/spin classes, , bingo nights, and . Funds have been collected for an impressive eighty operations.

Mike, the driving force behind Juggling Art Studio, is spearheading a series of fundraisers within his classes. These fundraising sessions, held every Tuesday from 18:30hrs - 22:00hrs, are open to juggling and flow-art enthusiasts who want to contribute to this heart-warming cause.

The event was a great success, and the children had a wonderful time. The Christmas spread was a way to show the youngsters that they are not alone, and that people care about them. Marking my 52^nd Birthday was not just a birthday party but we were also celebrating the birth of hope for children in Colombia with Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate who will benefit from the SiGMA Foundation GLOW campaign. This surprise buffet party which was organised by my wife Claudette and family at the Malta Falconry Centre was another opportunity to collect donations where we managed to raise €700. Together with other events that we have organised, like football tournaments, we reached the €3500 milestone.

It’s like the Camino experience every day. The school of life is what makes our journey exciting. An example of this is my kayaking round Malta challenge. The St Aloysius College Class of 1990 recently gathered at Ta Cicivetta farmhouse in Rabat for a heart-warming reunion on November 24, 2023. Karl Mallia and Tony Sammut, both culinary talents from the class, hosted the well-attended event.

What makes this reunion extra special is its philanthropic tradition. Andre Micallef, overseeing donations, orchestrated a remarkable €2500 fundraiser for the . This year, the funds are earmarked for cleft palate operations for Colombian children from financially strained families. Typically performed on infants, these operations, costing around €800 each, are transformative, ensuring these children lead normal lives in appearance, eating, and speech.

A nod to the Class of 1990 for their outstanding efforts! Their collective generosity will cover three life-changing operations in Cartagena.

In the words of the organizers, "both Charlotte and myself love what the SiGMA Foundation is doing with the underprivileged in Ethiopia, The Philippines, and Colombia and wanted to be involved. The funds we raised through this event will serve to finance three cleft palate operations in Cartagena, and that, for us, is precious. We ask everyone out there to come on board, to be contributory. Every €800 operation will be life-changing, so let's bring meaningfulness to the festive season and give true value to the Christmas spirit."
