$21 million in gambling revenue supports community in Westmoreland

Over 70 community projects in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania are currently receiving funding from gambling revenue.

Funds totalling nearly $21 million are being allocated to local groups and municipalities across the US county.

Numerous projects will be supported by this investment which will be used to purchase new equipment for first responders, road resurfacing, bridge repairs, playground improvements and much more.

The funding has been so substantial that it has relieved the requirement of an increase in taxation and accelerated the pace of these projects’ completion.

Sean Sullivan, the general manager of Live! Casino Pittsburg gave a statement full of positivity cementing the communal atmosphere sweeping across the county:

“It’s never just nonprofits, legislators, or public or private companies, it’s all three working together. We think this is a wonderful combination and this is proof.”

Other casino leaders have also commented, stating that revenues continue to grow, as they have for the past 2 years. They have also expressed intent to assist in the introduction of further amenities to even more communities across Westmoreland County.

Setting an example

This case showcases an important factor that should be considered as more and more states in the US as well as numerous nations across the world consider why and how to regulate gambling activities.

As secure and lucrative as it has ever been, with billions upon billions of dollars gambled every year, the gaming industry is creating an incredible opportunity to re-distribute wealth and support a community to an incredibly potent degree even when subject to normal taxation rates.

In many ways, it could be seen that if governments fail to capitalise on such a clear opportunity to legitimise and subsequently monetise an entertainment activity on such a large scale this could be a great disservice to many struggling communities across the world.
