Brazilian Grand Prix: New contenders and new contests

The 2023 iteration of the Brazilian Grand Prix is gearing up for a blazing contest this weekend.

Predictably, the reigning world champion Max Verstappen is believed to be an overwhelming favourite for victory.

After a convincing win last week at the Mexico City Grand Prix, Verstappen may look to extend his record for most wins in a season and continue to dominate the contest.

Coming second, 7-time world champion, Sir Lewis Hamilton will be hopeful to improve on his last result with his Mercedes looking more and more of a race-winning contender.

Qualify on pole last time out, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc would have been sourly disappointed with his third-place finish, however, with the prancing horse’s newfound pace contention may also be on the cars for the Marinello outfit.

Brazil’s iconic Interlagos circuit is known for its twisting, winding and slow corners, which may prove an issue for the Mclarens of Oscar Piastr and Lando Norris who had a disappointing previous outing.

Mexico City’s surprise performance was none other than a charging Daniel Riccardo, impressively finished in P7 after a drive that saw, AlphaTauri’s honey badger show glimpses of the talent he was so revered for at Red Bull and Renault.

An additional curve ball will also be thrown on Saturday at Interlagos when the F1 sprint returns once again offering more championship points and just a tantalising hint at what Sunday’s Grand Prix may hold.

Betting odds

The bookies have Max Verstappen has had his best odds set at a 1/3 with a majority of bookies having the soaring Dutch-Belgian at 1/4.

The bookies have three British entries in the Mercedes duo of Hamilton and Russell, along with Mclaren’s Lando Norris who are predominantly set at 8/1, 18/1 and 12/1 respectively.

Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate is thought to have lesser chances than the British trio after a devastating first-lap DNF at his home race, Checo has had his odds set at 16/1 with some bookies setting even worse at 20/1.

Both Ferraris are thought to be bringing less pace this weekend with both Leclerc and Sainz’s odds set to lower than that of Checo’s by some distance, with a majority offering 25/1 odds on the the pair separately.

Most popular bets

As it stands the betting activity has strongly suggested that Sir Lewis is set to finally eclipse Max Verstappen at least over the course of a singular race distance with nearly twice as many bets being placed on Lewis’ more favourable odds.

Certainty remains key for many as Max is second by a long margin at odds of 1/3 most commonly.
