Juno and Inception actress Ellen Page to star in new BuzzFeed Studios movie about Esports

According to ‘The Hollywood Reporter’, Ellen Page is set to star in a film called ‘1UP’, described to be similar to Pitch Perfect but with an Esports setting. Gamergate will act as the backdrop of the film.

Page will take on the role of a coach who leads an all-woman team to compete against the boys, Ellen Page | SiGMA Newswith production set to commence in the beginning of November in Toronto. This setting is nothing new for the actress as she also starred in Quantic Dream’s PS3 video game, Beyond: Two Souls.

‘The story centers on a female gamer named Vivian Lee who quits her college Esports team rather than put up with sexism from her male counterparts, but with her scholarship on the line, she is forced to assemble a Varsity-caliber, all-women’s team that can compete with the boys. With the help of an enigmatic coach who returns to the spotlight after her own Gamergate scandal, the young woman recruits an unlikely crew of unskilled misfits to kick some serious gamer butt.’

The film will be directed by Hugo-nominated author and American filmmaker – Kyle Newman. Newman previously directed the film ‘Barely Lethal’, which included stars like Samuel L Jackson, Sophie Turner and Hailee Steinfeld, and ‘Fanboys’.

Together with Kyle Newman, Skylanders Academy and The Adventures of Puss in Boots writer, Julia Yorks, will also be involved in 1UP.
