Hyatt to launch first Andaz hotel in Australia

Hyatt Hotels Corporation has announced plans to debut its luxury lifestyle brand Andaz in Australia, with the Andaz Gold Coast set to open in mid-2025. According to its press release, the development is part of a new partnership with Destination Gold Coast Consortium, a joint venture between The Star Entertainment Group and Hong Kong-based companies Far East Consortium and Chow Tai Fook Enterprises. The new Andaz hotel will be located within The Star Gold Coast, an integrated resort on Broadbeach Island.

“We are thrilled to announce plans to bring the Andaz brand to Australia’s premier resort destination in collaboration with The Star Gold Coast,” David Udell, Hyatt’s Group President for Asia Pacific, said. “Hyatt has had a brand presence in Australia for over 40 years, and we are excited to expand our luxury, lifestyle, and leisure offerings into sought-after destinations like the Gold Coast.”

First Andaz property in the Pacific region

The Andaz Gold Coast will be the first of its kind in Australia and the broader Pacific region. The hotel will occupy floors six to 21 of the 65-storey second tower currently under construction at The Star Gold Coast. It will feature 202 guest rooms and suites, a fitness centre, and three food and beverage outlets, including The Andaz Lounge and an expansive outdoor pool deck on level six. The deck will include a cocktail bar, beach club with private cabanas, and al fresco dining options.

This addition will join Hyatt’s current portfolio of 10 hotels across Australia, under brands such as Park Hyatt, Grand Hyatt, Hyatt Regency, Hyatt Centric, and Hyatt Place. “This resort will complement our current portfolio of hotels, and we are proud to bring Andaz’s unique offering to the Gold Coast,” Udell added.

Boosting the Gold Coast tourism industry

The new hotel is part of The Star Gold Coast’s AUD2 billion (€1.23 billion) masterplan aimed at enhancing the region’s appeal as a top-tier tourism destination. “We are delighted to welcome Andaz Gold Coast to our world-class tourism and entertainment precinct,” Steve McPharlin, General Manager of Hotels at The Star Gold Coast, said. “As part of this significant investment, we are not only elevating the hospitality offerings of the city but also creating new employment opportunities and vibrant hospitality experiences.”

The hotel’s design, developed by DBI Architects and interior specialists Hachem, will reflect the theme ‘Chase the Sun’, celebrating the transitions from sunrise to sunset.

Strong visitor growth fuels optimism

According to Patricia O’Callaghan, Chief Executive Officer of Tourism and Events Queensland, the Gold Coast remains a popular destination, with over four million Australians visiting last year. “The addition of Andaz Gold Coast is energising for the tourism industry, as it reflects the confidence in the region’s appeal. We are steadily recovering international arrivals to one of Australia’s best-known and well-loved destinations,” she said.
