Isle of Man GSC CEO Steve Brennan to step down

Steve Brennan, CEO of the Isle of Man Gambling Supervision Commission (GSC) for nearly 17 years, will resign by the end of 2024. He joined the Commission in February 2008. The GSC has already started looking for Brennan’s successor.

In a LinkedIn post, Brennan reflected on his career, stating, “After 38 years in the Isle of Man Government, the last 17 of which have been at the helm of the Gambling Supervision Commission, I’ll be stepping down as its chief executive towards the end of this year.”

In addition to his role at the GSC, Brennan chaired the Gaming Regulators European Forum (GREF) board between June 2016 and May 2018 and served as GREF’s vice chair between June 2014 and May 2016. Before becoming CEO of the GSC, Brennan worked as a senior policy officer in the Income Tax Division of the Isle of Man Government for over 21 years.

The GSC’s search for a new CEO marks the end of an era under Brennan’s leadership, during which the Isle of Man has solidified its reputation as a leading jurisdiction for online gambling regulation.

Isle of Man GSC cancels gaming licences

The GSC has recently announced the immediate cancellation of gambling licences for King Gaming Limited and Dalmine Ltd. This follows an earlier public statement released on 24 April 2024, which acknowledged an ongoing criminal investigation for both companies.

The GSC’s decision, in line with section 13 of the Online Gambling Regulation Act (OGRA), aims to uphold the regulatory objectives of ensuring fair gambling, protecting vulnerable individuals, and preventing gambling-related crime.

The Commission continues to work with partner agencies regarding the affairs of both companies but will make no further comments until all matters are resolved.
