MGA suspends gaming operator Green Feather Online licence

In its latest enforcement move, the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has suspended the licence awarded to Green Feather Online Limited, effective August 3. Green Feather Online owns and operates of a number of online casinos, including Galaxyno.casino, Bcasino.com, Bcasino.in, Boocasino.com, Boocasino.co, Galacticwins.com, and Mrfortune.com. Its licence was awarded in January 2019 (License No. MGA/B2C/445/2017).

The sanction imposed by MGA is for breach of Article 41 of the Gaming Authorisations and Compliance Directive. Effectively, Green Feather Online has failed to submit the required management accounts and audited financial statements in accordance with the law. Green Feather Online has twenty days to appeal against the suspension.

MGA enforcement

The enforcement is the third this month. SFJL Holding had its MGA licence suspended, having been found in breach of failure to comply with obligations stipulated by regulations, for failure to notify of material changes where notification was necessary and also for circumstances within the company which, if present at the application stage would have led to a rejection of application.

Earlier, the MGA cancelled EGMIT Elite Limited’s B2C gaming service licence for a number of serious breachers. Additionally, in this case the regulator filed a police report and initiated liquidation proceedings.

In an interview with SiGMA podcast, Adriana Minovic, Director of Compliance and DPO at Betsson Group explained how the gaming industry is adopting the mentality of being regulated. As in any regulated market, the main operators can afford the costs of compliance and burdens of regulations. Smaller businesses, on the other hand, have a tougher job being regulated and compliant, with possible costs that are ten times higher than those of large business (with more than 500 employees).

Minovic adds that Maltese regulatory bodies do not hinder technological innovation happening in any industry. The stance adopted is a pragmatic one, where regulators maintain open channels with the industry in order to understand how regulation can become an asset, rather than a hindrance to technological developments and innovation.
