Protest held was in connection to Western Lotto Limited suing 23 rival lottery operators over alleged infringement on its licence on “Ghana games”
On Monday, TENS of lottery operators surround the Federal High Court, Ikoyi to protest what they deem” judicial bias” in the handling of a lawsuit filed by Western Lotto Limited, belonging to politician Buruji Kashamu.
The protest concerned the lottery operators case between Western Lotto Ltd and National Lottery Regulatory Commission, Registrar of Trademarks, Premier Lotto Ltd & 22 others, and the case is being handled by Justice C.J. Aneke.
In the suit marked FHC/L/CS/2321/19, Western Lotto Limited, owned by a former Ogun State Senator Chief, Buruji Kashamu, sued 23 rival lottery operators over alleged infringement on its licence on “Ghana games”, a popular lotto product.
But the protesters besieged the court, bearing placards with inscriptions accusing the judge of bias in handling the suit, such as ‘Justice is not for sale’, ‘Aneke, do the right thing’, ‘Shine your eyes’, ‘Stop abusing judicial process’, ‘We say no to Kashamu’s judicial rascality’; ‘Equity & Fairness = Justice; Padi-Padi Judgment = Injustice’; among others.
One of the defendants is Premier Lotto Limited, popularly known as Baba Ijebu Gaming Limited, belonging to Chief Keshington Adebutu.
In December 2019, Western Lotto has been given authorisation by Justice Aneke to enter into the offices of other defendants and produce evidence to back the alleged infringement on its license on “Ghana games”.
Meanwhile, the hearing which was meant to summon on Monday has been scheduled for Tuesday.
