A monumental €22 million jackpot has been awarded to a Lotto player, the highest French “Loto” prize in 2024. The fortunate player purchased their ticket at the point of sale Le Verdon, located in Montrouge, a city in the suburbs of Paris, France.
Life-changing moment
On Wednesday, July 24, 2024, the future winner, an occasional player, decided to participate in the Lotto draw due to the jackpot reaching €22 million. He opted for three random grids and the second-draw option. After purchasing the ticket, the player casually pinned it to a board in their home and went on vacation with his partner for several weeks.
It wasn’t until his return that he decided to check the ticket at a local shop. The retailer, after asking the player to sit down, revealed the astonishing news – he had won the jackpot.
“Sit down, I have big news”
“When I was told I had won the jackpot, I was overwhelmed with joy,” the winner recounted. “I called my partner and said, ‘Sit down, I have big news.’” His partner humorously added, “I immediately responded, ‘What did you do this time?’ When he told me we had won the jackpot, I was shocked. I still can’t believe it.”
The winner, a collector of two-euro coins, revealed that he placed the winning ticket under a pile of coins to keep it safe.
A life of travel
The jackpot winner shared his plans to leave work and focus on his passion for travel. “We’re planning a long trip to Polynesia. Our first indulgence to celebrate this new chapter in our lives will be a night at a luxury hotel in Paris,” he said during the prize handover.
Defining himself as a lucky man, he added, “I will continue to play Lotto occasionally, and maybe luck will smile on me again.”
The winning combination was 8, 11, 18, 40, 47, with the lucky number 2.
