SiGMA Roadshow Ukraine: what to expect

With the SiGMA Roadshow being just two days away, this is what to expect from our first stop in Ukraine

The New Year in Ukraine started off with great news for the gambling industry. The roadshow will commence with Yvan Rudiy laying out the groundbreaking changes Ukraine will be facing following the newly implemented regulations.

The Ukrainian government officially approved the licensing conditions that dictate specific rules and requirements for each gambling product on 21st December 2020. This has opened doors to foreign investors and operators to start considering Ukraine as a fresh destination point to set up their business.

Bris - heathcliffThis opening keynote will be followed by leading policy individuals who will bring their industry experience into the debate. Boris Baum, an advisor to the Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine and Heathcliff Farrugia, former CEO of the Malta Gaming Authority will discuss the various aspects of regulating the gambling sector.

Due to the pandemic, online gambling is more promising however, in the near future, land-based gambling is also going to recover. The virtual roadshow will be tackling both online and land-based gaming as topics of interest.

With the groundbreaking passage of the gambling law in Ukraine, a regulation round table panel will take a deeper look into the ins and outs of how this will impact the online gaming industry. This panel will be followed by one focused merely on the land-based industry and tourism. Land-based gambling and entertainment venues are also planned to be moving forward with their big plans, as the new gambling act shook things up.

Sports - UkraineOleh Udovenko, Vice President of the Ukrainian Sport Poker Federation, will also be present for a keynote giving us a rundown on the current state of poker in the region.

It has been a difficult year for land-based table games, but the newly implemented framework will give poker a new breath of life. Apart from poker, the sports betting sector is also looking to hit the ground running. The most popular sport in Ukraine is Football. The country hosted UEFA Euro in 2012 and boasting some notable players like Andriy Shevchenko. Bookmakers are eager to make their mark on the Ukrainian gambling and entertainment industry.

SiGMA RoadshowThese interactive, virtual mini-conferences will take place in a different country every month, featuring Vegas in April, Manila in May, Germany in June, and Nigeria in July.
