Why Toronto? Top 5 reasons to stick around after SiGMA Americas

With this year’s edition of SiGMA Americas visiting the vibrant heart of Great White North, Toronto has always been a metropolis home to the best and brightest in Canada and abroad. Here’s a quick list of reasons why you should give the city a shot

While an entrepreneurial hub is the place to grow your business, it’s the quality of life that turns a hub into a home. Toronto ranked 16th in the 2018 Mercer Quality of Living survey while ranking 5th out of 110 cities for millennials to live in, making it the home of the next generation of entrepreneurs, investors and innovators. Outside of business hours, Toronto offers hard-working delegates the opportunity to unwind in a manner of their choosing. Feeling a bit like a stranger in a strange (but extremely lovely) land? The SiGMA Americas Team is here to help.

This article acts as a handy guide for our network of enterprising pioneers and delegates to cruise, pursue, snooze and potentially even booze (responsibly) around one of the most exciting cities in all of North America.

5.) SiGMA Americas’ sight of a lifetime:

553 meters tall and the most recognized symbol for Toronto worldwide, the CN Tower is a sight to behold. Not only one of the tallest buildings on the globe, it also has the well-earned title of “tallest freestanding building on the American continent” as well as being one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World.

Offering breathtaking views for obvious reasons, the ability to see the sprawling city of Toronto from either the 342 meter high Restaurant or the 447 meter high SkyPod is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our insta-savy delegates. Just maybe give it a pass if you’re afraid of heights.

4.) Class and Culture

If you’re more in touch with your artistic side, Toronto is far from disappointing in terms of the sheer variety of museums, historical sights and art galleries. The Royal Ontario Museum, easily one of the best museums in North America, has everything from experimental photography to a rotating set of exhibits and unique cultural artefacts. It also comes with the added benefit of looking extremely futuristic, a theme quite in line with SiGMA Americas forward-looking network and culture.

It also houses an extensive collection of dinosaur bones, minerals and fine arts with a focus on art deco.

More of an acting aficionado? The city is home to a number of the best theatre companies in the Americas with the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts, Roy Thomson Hall, Royal Alexandra Theatre and Princess of Wales Theatre all tucked into the city’s entertainment district.

The musicians amongst you might also be very glad to know that Toronto is also home to the Canadian Opera Company, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the Canadian Electronic Ensemble.

3.) Work hard, Play hard (responsibly)

More interested in living the high life and making the dance floor your stage? The city has got you covered. From EDM to Hip-Hop, clubs like The Rebel Nightclub, Coda and Mister Wolf offer our young and young-at-heart delegates the chance to party it up with some of the best and brightest SiGMA Americas and beyond has to offer.

Keep in mind the fact that some nightclubs have a strict dress code and potentially some other internal rules that you should follow.

2.) Unwinding in the great outdoors

Toronto, and Ontario as a whole, is the place to be for any delegate with a green thumb. The city itself hosts the beautiful High Park. This wonderful 161 hectare ecozone at the West End of the city center has everything from cultural facilities to fitness areas to even educational zones.

Feeling more adventurous? The islands in Lake Ontario also make up part of the city and are normally referred to as the Toronto Islands. These 13 islands constitute 820 acres in total. Centre Island, the largest and most popular island, also features a massive park with picnic areas, a beach and even more. This makes it the perfect summer getaway for our lucky delegates.

For the delegates willing to go above and beyond for the Canadian experience, Toronto is very close to Niagara Falls with a daytrip to one of the natural wonders of the world being just a short drive away.
