Alea inaugurates its Barcelona office, and the results are inspiring

In the world of workplace evolution, the story of Alea unfolds over two and a half years, a narrative of crafting a remarkable space from scratch. The driving force behind this endeavour has been Alex Tomic and Charlotte Lecomte, the co-founders of Alea. It is more than just an office; it represents a journey to manifest a shared vision with their dedicated employees.

At Alea, a mindset steeped in care for employees is at the heart of their ethos. This commitment extends to a collection of benefits, with a dedicated focus on well-being. The first step toward this vision was to ensure the pinnacle of quality in three fundamental elements: air, light and water.

Substantial investments were made, including a state-of-the-art air filtration system and the availability of locally sourced sparkling and volcanic still water in glass bottles.

Holistic Health Focus

Understanding the paramount importance of both mental and physical well-being, every Alea employee enjoys access to a sauna, an in-house gym, and personal training. To track and enhance the well-being journey, Alea equips every employee with an Oura Ring after three months. This device offers invaluable insights into sleep patterns, readiness, temperature, activity, and recovery balance.

Hyperbaric chamber

In the challenging days of March 2020, when COVID-19 cast a dark cloud over Barcelona, Alea sought to support their employees in the face of this crisis. Recognizing the inadequacy of conventional oxygen therapy, they reached out to Oxyhelp for a four-person hyperbaric chamber. This ground-breaking technology became a lifeline, providing a pressurised, oxygen-rich environment that aided in restoring blood oxygen levels within the cells.

Beyond immediate crisis management, Alea aspired to prepare for future waves of COVID. they aimed to provide a sanctuary where individuals could engage in physical activities, use the sauna, and access hyperbaric chambers, all while fostering their well-being. This commitment is rooted in the belief that employees are truly valued, as recruiting the right individuals is the cornerstone of their success.

Alea isn’t just a workplace, it’s a tribe

At Alea, it’s not just a workplace; it’s a tribe. Each member of the company is an integral part of this collective, which requires protection from potential toxic elements. Recognizing and attracting the right individuals is of paramount importance for the group’s growth. Identifying toxic behaviours can be challenging, especially when they mask themselves well, even in higher management.

However, Alea is steadfast in addressing such toxicity, regardless of the business value it may bring. Their vision extends to a statue, representing a powerful and enigmatic woman. She may appear to be a goddess of luck, but beneath her exterior lies an otherworldly nature. In the words of Alex Tomic, co-founder and CEO, “We would like her to be inspiring to our employees; there is a kind of magic in what we do.”

In an era marked by the rise of remote work, Alea’s commitment to building a workplace that feels like home stands as a refreshing beacon of hope. As Alex sits before the goddess of luck, he humorously remarks, “This is a church and we built a cult to gambling.”
