Authorities in Macau imposes strict measures on Hong Kong

Authorities in Macau have started tightening arrival requirements from Hong Kong due to the rise of COVID-19 cases in the neighboring SAR

Authorities imposes a 14-day quarantine protocol remains in place for travelers coming in from Hong Kong or have been in Hong Kong the last 14 days. Members of the crew for Macau-Hong Kong ships will be housed directly to a designated hotel, to return back directly to the terminal for boarding.

Macau health authorities said in an announcement that visitors from Hong Kong must present a negative Covid-19 nucleic acid test issued within 72 hours. Previous announcement stated that such negative test result should have been taken in the last 7 days, a guideline still in place for visitors arriving from the Mainland.

Macau authorities In June, Macau authorities relaxed quarantine measures for visitors coming in from Guangdong province in Mainland China, allowing them to return back to the province from Macau without having to go through the 14-day quarantine. The step resulted to increase visitation in Macau to a reported 2,000 daily as opposed to only hundreds prior to relaxation.

Late last month, Hong Kong’s Centre for Health Protection recorded 133 more infections, the highest recorded daily figure, totaling to 2,506 cases, with 1,455 successful recoveries.

Meanwhile, visitors entering Hong Kong from Macau, Mainland and Taiwan will still have to undergo the 14-day quarantine set by the SAR which was extended until 7 September.

Macau records increase in revenue for July with 88 percent rise compared to June. However, revenue is still 94.5 percent lower on compared to the same period last year.  Visitation records last year showed 50 percent of Macau tourists are from Guangdong while Hong Kong travelers account for 15 percent under normal circumstances.
