Women at the wheel: Elvira Lan leads women in iGaming

SiGMA continues to shine a light on the inspiring women of the iGaming industry. This time, the spotlight is on Elvira Lan, Chief Business Development Officer at 1win. Lan challenges traditional stereotypes that have held women back in the male-dominated sector, as featured in Issue 29 of SiGMA Magazine.

Empowering women leaders in iGaming

Women tend to doubt their expertise and worth. Even with strong skills and experience, they may focus on what they are missing, questioning whether they should apply for a job or ask for a promotion. This can be caused by personal concerns, the environment in which a woman was raised, as well as a company’s lack of motivation to develop its employees and inform them about opportunities within the team.

Numbers evidence the impact of these mental barriers. Despite increased leadership development programs and progress toward workplace equality, women remain underrepresented in leadership roles. As of 2023, only 10 percent of Fortune 500 CEOs are women.

Today, women make up 46 percent of the iGaming industry workforce, a strong presence in a traditionally male domain. Interestingly, 22 percent of executives in the industry are women. However, significant shifts toward inclusivity and diversity have only emerged in recent years.

Beyond challenging stereotypes, it’s crucial to support initiatives that encourage young women to pursue careers in technology and other traditionally male-dominated fields.

Fostering women’s empowerment

Lan’s recent efforts in delivering her campaign was her presence at the SiGMA East Europe 2024 as a keynote speaker and a panel discussion moderator.

She left the summit crowd with a new perspective with her keynote address, “Empowering Women Leaders in iGaming.” This was followed by her panel discussion with other powerful ladies in the sector.

Women in Gaming panel was comprised of Lan herself, Elena Rzyanina (Founder & CEO of Lenkep), Alexia Gauci (B2B Sales Manager of ReferOn), and Marianna Tavella (Chief Legal Officer of SiGMA Group). They discussed the challenges and opportunities that women face in the business sector, particularly in iGaming.
