Lack of sports betting regulator leads to delays in Louisiana

Senate President for Louisiana, Page Cortez, said that the delays in the implementation of sports betting in the state are due to the absence of a gambling regulator chief

The framework for sportsbetting was recently codified into law as Governor John Bel Edwards signed several bills legalising the practice. Before operators may start constructing brick and mortar locations, the Gaming Control Board must promulgate the new framework.

The Governor’s spokesperson, Christina Stephens, said that he is looking ‘forward to making an appointment sooner rather than later’ following the resignation of Former Board Chair Mike Noel on June 9th. The resignation came prior to a Senate confirmation hearing.

When sports betting is implemented, it will be the largest gambling expansion in Louisiana since the Legislature established the lottery, casinos and video poker in the early 1990s.
