Melco donates half a million masks in bid to slow the spread of COVID-19

Gaming operator continues to help Macau fight against Covid-19 by donating surgical masks to the local government

MGM donated 500.000 surgical masks to the Macao government and now Melco Resorts & Entertainment has announced a new wave of contribution by donating the same amount. The masks will be supporting vulnerable groups in the community, such as the elderly, single families, long-term patients, and medical personnel. 200,000 of the masks are donated directly to designated operating NGOs in the area.

The masks are ojust one of Melco’s recent initiatives to help minimize the socioeconomic impact of COVID-19. The company has just hired 100 local resident construction workers as part of its commitment to local people and donated HKD 20 million donation to Wuhan and Hubei in support of Government health initiatives. Additionally they have donated MOP 8 million to the local Macau community to set up a Special Aid Fund for Workers in Need.

Chairman & CEO of Melco Mr. Lawrence Ho said, “We trust the combined efforts of the Macao SAR Government, businesses and members of the public will enable us to collectively overcome COVID-19 and become an ever-stronger and more united community. We are grateful for the Government’s continued anti-epidemic efforts and hope the mask donation will support frontline medical workers in their daily fight against the spread of the virus. We also express gratitude to our community partners for joining us in distributing the 200,000 masks at this difficult time to persons in need through operating NGOs under Social Welfare Bureau, as well as reaching out to the community’s accommodation service users.” 

Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Ms. Ao Ieong U said that she is appreciative of corporate donations and is pleased to witness the collective anti-epidemic efforts from parties throughout the community.
