PAGCOR online casino plans set for 2H24

In his opening keynote during SiGMA Asia in July 2023 PAGCOR Chairman and CEO, Alejandro H. Tengco had announced plans to launch PAGCOR online casino operations in 2024 – CasinoFilipino.com, employing virtual reality-based tech to simulate the sights and sounds of physical casinos.

Speaking about online gaming, Tengco said:

“It transcends physical boundaries, reaching a global audience and establishing a presence in virtual communities of gamers. An opportunity to tap into new markets and diversify its customer base.”

PAGCOR has confirmed their target for the launch for the second half of this year in order to keep up with the fast-growing revenue source. Currently, PAGCOR only issues internet gaming licenses as the industry regulator.

Once the well-established CasinoFilipino brand branches online, PAGCOR will be able to reach a global audience, potentially resulting in a significant increase in the customer base.

He also pointed out that, with the internet gaming platform, PAGCOR can widen its reach because “we’re not talking of the Philippine market alone. We’re talking of the world.”

GGR at unprecedented levels

While PAGCOR has no earnings projection yet for internet-based gaming, its latest figures are promising. PAGCOR has reported that the country’s gross gaming revenues (GGR) for 2023 soared to an unprecedented Php285.27 billion. (4.69 billion Eur). This remarkable achievement not only surpasses pre-pandemic levels but also sets the stage for robust growth in the years ahead.

PAGCOR Chairman and CEO Tengco, highlighted that the new GGR record represents an impressive 11.22% increase over the previous high of Php256.49 billion (4.22 billion Eur) in 2019. The industry faced a significant downturn in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, causing a steep decline in gaming revenues amid movement restrictions.

Chairman Tengco expressed his satisfaction with the results, stating, “Our 2023 results exceeded even our most optimistic projections, proving beyond doubt that the Philippine gaming industry has fully recovered and is now poised for sustained growth in the medium- to long-term.”
