Seoul: Casinos to remain closed till 17th January

The extended social distancing regulations will have a massive impact on several land-based casinos, including the Jeju Dream Tower

The Government announced an extension on social distancing regulations and as a result, casinos will remain closed until 17th January

The capital, Seoul, is under restriction level 2.5 while the remainder of the country will follow level 2 protocols. The Level 2.5 restrictions include the banning of gatherings of more than 50 people, stadiums closed to fans and banning in-person services at cafes. Furthermore, department stores, private schools and entertainment facilities must close by 9:00pm.

Meanwhile, Level 2 restrictions require nightclubs and bars to remain closed, limited number of students allowed at school but takeaway services may continue.

The newly announced date comes after a number of casinos declared that they will reopen after 4th January, such as the foreign only casino Grand Korea Leisure Co Ltd (GKL) and Paradise Co Ltd, therefore, the newly imposed regulations come as a big hit towards land-based casinos especially after GKL continuously extended their closure since the beginning of December.

Meanwhile, the Kangwon Land casino reported that they will remain closed until 18th January but the ski resort will remain operational, with the tourist catering businesses allowed to operate at 30% and hotels at 50%.
