Tennessee: Operators aiming to go live for Super Bowl

The Super Bowl is around the corner and three operators are looking to go live before 7th February 2021

The Super Bowl is just around the corner and sports betting approvals in Tennessee is firmly underway. Churchill Downs is the latest addition to list of approved sports betting entities and aims to go live by this February 2021.

The Education Lottery in Tennessee has announced that Churchill Downs will be given the go ahead to launch fully within the state should they meet final financial standard checks imposed by the governing body.

Additionally, in order to speed up the vetting process, the Lottery plans to host a specific meeting to iron out further details to consider the applications. However, it was stated by Lottery CEO, Rebecca Hargrove, that not all operators may make the cut due to the lack of information given and the tight deadline until the SuperBowl which will be held on the 7th of February.

The desire to go live before the Super Bowl can be seen through TN sports Betting recording an all time record in sports betting within the state of Tennessee with a combined $131.4 million in handle. To the state this meant that financially, revenue amounted to $13.2 million with $2.4 million paid in taxes.

This record start to the year was mainly due to the fact that the most popular football team, Tennessee Titans, played 4 times last month whilst the NBA launched right before the Christmas holidays. Additionally, there is more NFL betting to come as the Titans play the Baltimore Ravens in a Wild Card game.

On the other hand there is still some confusion with regards to peer-to-peer betting. It is still unclear whether ZenSports will be permited to offer its peer-to-peer betting services hand in had with its standard sportsbook. Clarity is particularly essential to ZenSports as it offers a P2P marketplace allowing punters to set their own lines and take bets from others.

However, several members of the Lottery and sports wagering advisory council are still reluctant to approve such operations.
