Air Macau to resume and increase mainland destinations from late September

Air Macau is planning to increase the number of flights per week to mainland destinations from the current commitment of 54 to 230

Air Macau, Macau’s flag-carrier airline, stated on Monday that they will resume flights to a number of cities in mainland China, coinciding with the resumption of the Individual Visit Scheme (IVS) visas for tourists nationwide on September 23.  

The newspaper, Macao Daily News reported, that Air Macau is planning to increase the number of flights per week to mainland destinations in October from the current commitment of 54 per week to 230. 

Air Macau route mapThe first step includes Air Macau to resume flights to eight destinationsnamely Tianjin, Taiyuan, Zhengzhou, Qingdao, Ningbo, Wenzhou, Chongqing and Guiyang, and will encrypt the frequency of flights to 9 destinations including Beijing and Shanghai from September 23, said the media outlet. 

The IVS was lifted for visitors coming in from Zhuhai on 12 August. The announcement included the lifting of IVS suspension for Guangdong province scheduled on 26 August and for the rest of China on 23 September. The IVS scheme and tour group visa scheme had been suspended in late January, to curb the spread of the COVID.  

According to Macao Daily News, Air Macau said the decision to increase the number of flights to Chinese cities was made in response to the Macau government’s “expanding the source of passengers, boosting the economy, and safeguarding employment” plan, Air Macau stated on the 7th that it will further increase the overall number of flights starting from September 30, with 230 flights to the mainland every week, 9 The monthly increase of 176 flights, an increase of 326%. 

The government of Macau announced on Thursday their latest plan to dedicate 13% of territory to developments in tourism and leisure; the areas in question being NAPE/ZAPE and Cotai. The plan aims to include areas for industrial, green leisure, residential, and diversified industrial. The total number of new zones will be eighteen. Moreover, the main objective is to make Macau a hub-spot for travelers around the world.
