Diwali celebrations light up SiGMA’s Noida office

This year, SiGMA celebrates ten years of remarkable growth. From its modest start in a small Maltese office, SiGMA has become a global leader with offices around the world. The newest addition is in Noida, India, as part of SiGMA’s strategic plan to tap into global markets and talent pools.

SiGMA’s new Noida office is more than just a place of work; it’s a community focal point. This week, the Noida office did Diwali right, kicking off the celebrations with traditional Puja prayers in a space set up and decorated for the festivities. Afterwards, the team gathered for a festive lunch, celebrating the spirit of togetherness so emblematic of Diwali.

A celebration of light and unity

Diwali is more than just a holiday; it’s a celebration of light triumphing over darkness, cherished by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and Buddhists alike. It’s a time for lighting diyas, decorating homes, places of work and exchanging gifts and sweets. SiGMA’s participation in these traditions at the Noida office is testament to how the company respects and integrates cultural diversity into its workplace.

Diwali and the tradition of poker and other card games

The parties are believed to have roots in Hindu mythology, particularly tied to legends involving the god Shiva and his consort, Parvati. According to these tales, Parvati enjoyed playing dice games with Shiva during Diwali. She declared that whoever gambled on this day would be blessed with prosperity and good fortune throughout the year.

This tradition of playing card games such as teen patti, rummy, or poker during Diwali is seen as an auspicious activity. It symbolises a cultural practice of invoking luck and prosperity, reflecting themes of wealth and success that are central to the broader Diwali celebrations.
