MGA suspends Dimsacon Ltd’s licence, second within the week

The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) announced on October 3 that it had suspended the authorisation of Dimsacon Limited, effective from 21 August 2024. This is the second suspension announcement within the week following the suspension of Goldwin Ltd’s Malta licence.

According to the regulator’s press release, Dimsacon, which held Recognition Notice RN/225/2021, can no longer operate any gaming activities in or from Malta. This suspension was imposed under regulation 8 (1) (f) of the Gaming Compliance and Enforcement Regulations (S.L. 583.06), indicating a failure to comply with these specific regulatory requirements.

The MGA’s decision includes provisions under regulation 9, such as regulation 9 (1) (m), highlighting that the reasons behind this action are based on Dimsacon’s failure to meet regulatory standards. However, Dimsacon retains the right to appeal the decision in accordance with article 43 of the Gaming Act (Chapter 583 of the Laws of Malta).

MGA’s role in global gaming regulation

Malta is widely regarded as one of the leading and most respected online gaming jurisdictions globally, boasting the highest number of licensed operators. According to recent data, the iGaming industry in Malta has grown over the past decades, and it contributes to over 12 percent of the country’s overall gross domestic product (GDP).

The country’s gaming regulator, the Malta Gaming Authority plays a pivotal role in regulating both online and land-based gambling in the country. The MGA works to maintain the integrity of the sector by enforcing stringent standards on operators. By promoting international collaboration and adopting the best regulatory practices, the MGA ensures that Malta remains a trusted jurisdiction for gaming operators worldwide. Through this commitment, the authority continues to safeguard the industry while advancing its sustainable growth.

This recent suspension is part of the MGA’s ongoing efforts to uphold its rigorous standards and protect the gaming sector’s reputation on a global scale.
