Las Vegas Sands reaches environmental sustainability targets

The Las Vegas Sands has managed to reach two out of three environmental sustainability objectives and is well on its way to accomplish its final goal

The operator has managed to significantly reduce its greenhouse gas emissions over the years which has seen a reduction of 12.4% emission which is above it’s goal, set out by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals for 2020.

Additionally, the Las Vegas Sand’s has also reduced its water consumption by 3.2% which is also ahead of the 2020 target (3%). However, on the other hand, waste reduction is the only target left to be met.

Furthermore, within the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) report, over 95.6% of employees undertook Sheldon Adelson | SiGMA Newsadditional and specific relevant training such as anti-money laundering training and 16,862 employees participating in responsible gambling training.

Moreover, the report also noted that 327 employees were elected as ‘responsible gambling ambassadors’ for the company. Las Vegas Sands’ gaming facilities, which accounts for approximately 18.4% of total revenue, had implemented the Responsible Gambling Index (RGI) which is a number of standards set out by the Responsible Gambling Council.

Las Vegas Sands also contributed largely to several charitable causes during 2019 which amounted to $6.8m whilst also donating 200,988 lbs. of food.

Sheldon Adelson (pictured), Las Vegas Sands chairman and chief executive, outlined that the company’s extended work in such environmental and social areas emphasised the company’s values and praised their team members for their ‘unwavering commitment and contributions’.
