Malaysia Genting group to apply for Irish iGaming license

Land-based casino Genting plans to enter the Irish with an online gambling service

Genting also acquired a game development company, Authentic Gaming last year to integrate online and physical gaming experience with innovative streaming technology.

With the epidemic gradually easing in Malaysia,  the local government has just announced the implementation of the Recovery Management Act (RMCO) last Wednesday (10th) to open entry and exit restrictions until August 31. However, Genting group will still be closed during this period. In light of this situation, land based casino Genting plans to enter the Irish market to open an online gambling service and is submitting an application in this regard.

Report continued that the license allows Genting Group’s online gaming brand ‘GentingBet’ to operate in Ireland. At present, the online gambling brand has provided sports betting, slot games and live casino games in the UK.

Genting Group said in its annual report last year that its online gambling business has grown strongly and that the group has been investing resources to continue to expand. In 2019, the Group also reorganised the ‘GentingBet’ brand and launched exclusive content on a new website. Genting also acquired game development company Authentic Gaming last year to integrate online and physical gaming experience with innovative streaming technology.

Genting also said that although the epidemic caused many land based casinos to suspend operations, the iGaming performance in the first quarter of 2020 was still in strong growth and in line with their expectations.

At present, Resorts World Genting, Resorts World Awana, Resorts World Kijal, and Resorts World Langkawi under Genting Group remain closed.
